I’m 52 years old and nobody will hire me. Why?
The struggle of many who have already reached the age of 50 or more is the lack of opportunities in the job market --- no matter what they do

Because you are over 50, the likelihood of getting hired by any company or store, regardless of the you; however, it is evident that they are discriminating against you. It’s clear as day, no glasses needed.
People over 50 are often discriminated against because of their age these days. Employers think you may be less prepared and demand less money in the market, which is not necessarily true. They prefer to interview millennials. This trend seems unlikely to stop, regardless of the experience seniors may have.
Despite the situation, there are things you can do to reverse it. At 50, you are still young enough to be quite productive.
Freelancing Could Be the Way to Go
Just because companies don’t want to hire you, it doesn’t mean you have to give up. You must show off what you are capable of and how skilled you are. If you have developed a skill set in any field you have studied and worked in, you should probably apply for a position that allows you to work as an independent contractor or consultant for a company. You might also try freelancing. After all, being self-employed is not all that bad, especially because you have the opportunity to work on jobs you like without dealing with office politics.
Why not transition?
Another option is to look into Senior Living companies. There’s a good reason to do so. This is a growing field that can allow you to operate in sales and marketing. Also, make sure to live near the company you plan to apply for. Ensure that the area of expertise you are applying for is a field you’ve already worked in. The pay can be decent, and you are unlikely to face discrimination, as they are always seeking people your age.
Even if you’re 60, you still have chances to transition into another related field. Bear in mind that your original career might have limitations that don't allow you to move on. Once you start in your new career and get accustomed to the routine, you will never look back.
A store can be a good option
If you still feel young and energized enough, why not go for a job in a retail environment? If you are in good shape, many retail locations would like to take you on. Fifty-year-olds are mature people who tend to be more reliable than younger workers. You might even work your way up and get promoted over time. What they pay may not be what you are hoping for, but you will not be stressed out, and you’ll surely enjoy your new job.
Tailoring Your Resume for Technology
One thing to bear in mind is that computers or software are the ones filtering resumes today. You must create your resume as if it were for a robot, because it actually is a robot that reads and filters it before passing it on to the manager. Use keywords that match the job position you want to apply for.
Showcase Your Current Skills
You must also improve your technological abilities. If possible, try to obtain a Google certification or become proficient with one or several technological tools that make you look interesting. Taking a course will definitely increase your relevance in the job market.
Stay Updated with Trends
Last but not least, stay on top of trends. Keep in mind that everything is constantly changing. New and emerging methods have transformed the workplace. Present yourself as an authority or mentor and forget about how things used to be. Instead, position yourself as an advisor who helps avoid mistakes. Keep sharpening your skills and adding new ones to those you already have.
Last but not least…
Experience is no longer sufficient. Years of experience are not impressive anymore. Employers have stopped searching for advisors or people with profiles that make them look motherly or paternal. They are now looking for candidates who can meet the job requirements and demonstrate their abilities easily.
