How to take Screenshot on Windows:

Screenshots are getting a lot of popularity these days, as they can be quite handy in creating a product manual or product troubleshooting guide. They can also be handy to create a knowledge base or simply create troubleshooting or How-To articles.

Now to capture screenshots we have several options and tools, some are inbuilt inside Windows operating system and some are third party tools with additional features. In this article we will discuss all of them in detail. We will start with the default Windows screen capture tool and then in the later part check out an amazing third party tool.

How To Take Screenshot On Windows 10 Using PrtScn Key

One of the most simplest and conventional methods to take a screenshot on a PC is by using the Print Screen (PrtScn) key of your keyboard. Let’s quickly look out how to use this key for screen capture in Windows 10.

● Open the screen or the image that you want to capture and press the PrtScn key on your keyboard, which is located at the top right corner.

● Now pressing the PrtScn key will take a screenshot of the entire screen, and then you have to use the image editor tool like MS Paint or word editor like MS Word to make the required change on the captured screenshot, by copying the screenshot onto them. You can simply use the shortcut key Ctrl + V to paste the captured screen on any of these tools.

Moreover these tools have various options to edit the screenshot as per your requirement.

You can also use the PrtScn key in combination with other Windows keys to make some alternation while capturing the screen. Below is the list for the same:

Alt Key + PrtScn: When you press the Alt key which is located on the bottom line of your keyboards, adjacent to Spacebar key along with PrtScn then it helps you to capture only the window which is currently active on the screen, instead of the entire screen. And once you have captured the screenshot use any of the tools(MS Paint or MS Word) to paste the copied content as discussed above.

Windows Key + PrtScn: When you use PrtScn key in combination with Windows key, it captures the entire screen and automatically saves the captured screen in image format in the default Pictures library under the folder name Screenshots.

To get access to your captured screenshots you have to navigate to the folder named Screenshots located in the Pictures library.

How To Take Screenshot On Windows10 using Snipping Tool

Windows 10 provides you with another amazing feature known as “Snipping Tool” that allows a user to capture a screenshot of a desired portion of the current window. Let’s check out how to use the Snipping Tool to take screenshots on PC.

● Once you have opened the Snipping tool, click on New.

Rectangular snip allows you to select a rectangular portion of the screen to capture while Free from snip provides you the flexibility to draw free form around the screen that you need to capture.

Windows Snip allows you to capture the window on the screen, like a dialogue box or a prompt while Full-screen snip, allows you to capture the entire screen.

● Now once you have taken the screenshot you can save the file at any desired location.

The snipping tool also has another feature known as Delay that allows the user to capture a screenshot after a delay of a few seconds.
