How To Survive The Apocalypses
Mastering Survival: Key Techniques for Water, Food, Shelter, and Warmth

Your plane crashes, your car breaks down someplace, or you're attempting to live when society has totally collapsed. After your pleasures are taken away, you might need the skills to carry on, but how?
A person needs water, food, shelter, warmth, and clothes in order to survive. Alright, let's begin with water. Finding a fresh water supply will be essential, but even then, it won't be impervious to illness. To eliminate any potentially dangerous bacteria, bring the water to a boil for five minutes. In addition, any proteins that may be contaminated may denature when heated to a high temperature. Cacti may be used to make water by chopping off portions and mashing them into a container.
You may consume fresh snow in frigid areas; the finest source is thick ice. If you are unable to access fresh water, you can gather dew in limp cloth and gather rainfall off rocks, divots, and leaves. Save water by not using it to moisten your lips. Sucking on a button or pebble might relieve dry mouth and quench the urge to drink. When you do find water, take a long time to sip it carefully. This lowers the risk of nausea and enables the body to use it effectively.
It's time for some food. You will have to accept this fact and consume insects, mealworms, crickets, and other creatures that are rich in protein and contain vitamins and minerals that are necessary for living. Additionally, because you are a fearsome animal, wolves, foxes, and owls will typically abandon their prey if they see you, which you may then steal. The flesh will likely be tougher and degrade more quickly than newly captured because of the presence of lactic acid if the prey had to run, but if cooked right away, it should be acceptable.
If you don't take vitamin C for a month, your body may start to fail at healing itself and you may feel feeble. This is due to the fact that vitamin C plays a crucial role in biological processes that produce collagen, the structural protein responsible for wound healing. You can get the same amount of vitamin C by boiling spruce needles in water to make tea as you would from a fresh orange juice glass. Because they rely so heavily on concealment and are so easy to approach once recognized, rabbits are among the easiest animals to catch. However, because rabbit is such a lean meat, you will need to locate more fat if you are to subsist solely on it.
Since staples like butter, milk, salad oil, and ice cream account for a large portion of our consumption of fat, it is necessary to actively seek out fat-containing foods. Eating some plants, like berries, can be fatal, so adopt a squirrel's mindset and eat acorns instead. They're always safe and packed full of fat. Tannin, an organic material included in beer and tea, is what gives these beverages their bitter flavor.
You may lessen the bitterness of the acorns by boiling them for two hours, after which you can either let them dry out or ground them into a paste to use in pancake recipes. The dandelion is edible in every way. In order to lessen the bitterness, you may also boil them. Another tasty food that is rich in fat and important nutrients is maple tree seeds. Although catching fish will provide vital nourishment, there are other options that don't need fishing. Seaweed is plentiful and very nourishing. It can be eaten raw, boiled, steamed, fried, or cleaned by rocks. Mollusks that clean rocks are also abundant in North America's Pacific coast.
While cooking meat over a campfire with a stick is a common method, you may also steam food by excavating a pit, filling it with hot pebbles, and covering it with damp plants or seaweed. Steam will be produced by the heated rocks when you place the meal on top and gradually pour water. Always keep matches or a lighter close at hand to start a fire. If all else fails, you may also use two rocks struck together to produce sparks. Look for iron pyrite, a flammable mineral that is extracted for its combustible qualities.
The traditional magnifying glass binocular lenses are a secure alternative that can also be effective. When sparks appear, you'll require a tinder, which is a term for easily ignitable materials. Shreds of birch bark, grass, lichen, dried moss, evergreen needles, and the bark of all cedar trees are a few examples. After lighting, you should carefully place the ends of the sticks in the fire and push them into the flames until they are fully consumed. This is a practical method for extending the life of your fire. For obvious reasons, you don't want to start a fire within your shelter, and enough ventilation is required to eliminate the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning. When placing your fire a safe distance in front of it for warmth, a shallow cave makes a perfect shelter.
It's also easy and efficient to break off branches and create a leaning structure in the woods. Build the walls from the bottom up, angling the gentle slant towards the wind. Make a drain around the building with a stick so that rainwater may escape. In terms of a comfortable mattress, dried moss, pine needles, leaves, and ferns are the post-apocalyptic equivalent of a Casper mattress.
Wearing clothing that is too warm in the winter might cause dehydration since your body can regulate its temperature. Make sure to get thick wool socks and boots on the way out. those dexterity will require more room around the knees, so leave those narrow pants at home. The most effective way to keep insects at bay is to wear loose cotton shirts with plenty of pockets, ideally with closures. When needed, you can tuck down any bird feathers beneath your clothing for warmth, or you can use oil derived from animal fats to lubricate and help keep footwear waterproof.
