How to Make Your First Website in 7 Simple Steps
Creating your first website can seem like an overwhelming task, but it doesn’t have to be that way. In this article, we break down the seven simple steps to making your first website and get you started on creating your own site today! To create your website, you’ll need some basic information about what you want to achieve and any specific goals that you want to accomplish, because if you don’t know what you want from your website, it will be very difficult to make it happen.
1) Step One: Choose Your Website Platform
Choosing your website platform is a crucial first step because it can make or break the success of your website. You have to think about what you want your site to do, who you're trying to reach, and what type of content you'll be putting on it. There are three basic platforms: WordPress, Joomla and Drupal.
2) Step Two: Select a Domain Name
Once you've picked a name and registered it, it's time to select a domain. There are many places where you can register domains (e.g., GoDaddy, Google Domains), but for the sake of this post we'll just focus on the most popular one: GoDaddy.
To choose a domain name, head over to GoDaddy and start typing in your desired name into the search bar.

3) Step Three: Set Up Hosting
After you've chosen a domain name and picked your hosting provider, it's time to set up your website. Log into the website of your hosting service and select the Control Panel tab. From there, click on the Website Setup Wizard. It will lead you through a series of questions that will ask you what type of site you want (e.g., personal or business), how many pages it should have, which scripts are needed, etc.
4) Step Four: Choose a Theme
Once you have selected the topic of your site, it is time to decide on a theme. One of the most important decisions you will make, so don't rush this! There are two general types of website themes: free and paid. Free themes are great for beginners because they allow you to build your site with little coding knowledge. On the other hand, paid themes can be more customizable and professional looking. The choice is up to you!
5) Step Five: Install Plugins
Once you have the site up and running, it's time to customize it. One of the best ways to do that is through plugins. We recommend installing a plugin called Yoast SEO, which will help with optimizing your site for search engines. This can be done by going into Settings > General > WordPress SEO (on your dashboard).

6) Step Six: Create Pages and Posts
Now it's time to create some posts and pages. Start by clicking on the Pages button in the navigation bar. You'll see a list of all the pages that are currently on your site, and you can click Add New Page below them. Give your page a title, and then enter a slug (the URL of the page). Click Create Page. Next, go ahead and add as many posts as you want to your homepage.
7) Step Seven: Promote Your Site
Now that your website is complete, it's time to let the world know about it! You can use a service like Hootsuite or Buffer to schedule tweets and posts on Facebook or LinkedIn. But if you have a blog, you'll want to make sure you're mentioning your site every time you write a new post. In addition, consider asking your friends and family for help with marketing: they might be more likely than strangers are to share your site with their own social networks.
