Here’s How You Can Quadruple (4x) Your Typing Speed!
**This is not a clickbait title. I’m being dead serious that these tips will help you type faster.
My typing speed went from 22 wpm to 82 wpm. Along the journey, I have figured out these helpful, actionable tips that have significantly increased my typing speed. And I would like to share all of them in this article.
By the way, this is proof of my typing speed.

First, Believe In Yourself
Everything is achievable, but you need to believe that you are capable of doing it. Imagine yourself in the future sitting in a comfy chair, resting your lovely pair of hands on the keyboard. At eye level, you see a white screen and a blank canvas for you to slap your creativity on it and share it with this wonderful world. You look at yourself smashing on the keyboard like mad. And you see a big, beautiful smiling face on your cheeks after finishing a piece of art.
Once you believe in yourself. Now let’s explore more about how you could learn the skills of touch-typing.
Typing is a skill; therefore, with practice, it can be improved.
These days, many people type very fast. They learn from practice. Typing skill is not what you were born with, it’s what you learn and improve. Trust me, you are capable of touch typing, and you will soon be a fast typer if you put in the effort in the right way.
The advantages of fast touch typing
- You can create more content with your writing skills
- You can express your ideas and thoughts faster which can reduce stress in your head and in your mind because you have written all your thoughts down already. In short, your brain doesn’t have to remember what you want to say or what you want to mention.
- You can take notes faster. In college and university, fast note-taking skills are essential because if you want to note what you just heard, you gotta type it down fast; otherwise, you will forget.
- You could have more fun chatting with friends. This helps the conversation be more fun and attractive. You have to experience it yourself and you’ll understand how it feels.
- It helps your brain think faster too. When you write faster, it forces the brain to work faster. As a result, you are exercising your brain along the journey too.
- You can finish any typing work or typing assignment faster. I think I don’t have to elaborate more on this point because it’s already obvious to everyone who is interested in fast-typing.
- You can think ahead of what you’re writing. I mean, if you can let your muscle memory do the job, your brain can think ahead about what you want to tell after this particular topic.
Why limit yourself to what you haven’t learned in the right way?
If you have creative ideas to share with the world, the only thing that is pulling you back is your typing speed. If you can type faster, you can create more content, and you can grow faster on your social media or wherever you are writing and publishing content.
How to start touch-typing the right way?
These are step-by-step guides to starting touch-typing.
- Take a typing test, I used 10FastFingers.com when I first started. You will have to type for 1 minute, and I’ll provide you with the speed, keystrokes, accuracy, correct words, and wrong words.
This is my average typing speed.
2. Learn these topics
- What is Touch-Typing? — In short, it’s typing without looking at the keyboard.
- What is Muscle Memory? — Basically, it is the ability to press the key you want without having to think about where it is located. So, it looks like your muscle has the memory that contains the location of every key on the keyboard.
I recommend you watch this video because it covers most of the things you need to know about touch-typing.
3. Learn how to build your muscle memory
I will teach you how I build my muscle memory
There are TWO RULES YOU NEED TO FOLLOW
If you don’t break both rules, my warranty will stay with you forever. However, if you break any rules, BAM, the warranty expires automatically.
- Type Everything Without Looking At The Keyboard — Yes, I mean that. In the first week, this feels so horrible. You will be so mad and angry with yourself, but if you let yourself looks at the keyboard and use two fingers to type, you won’t be proficient in touch-typing; however, if you have tried every key already and you still can’t find the character you want, you are allowed to look at the keyboard. But promise yourself not to look at the keyboard that often. Cuz the more you look at it, the slower you will learn the touch-typing skills.
- Practice, Practice, and Practice — This rule is already self-explanatory. You can’t improve or proficient in a skill without heavy practice. If you want to have fun typing, I would recommend MonkeyType.com, my friends love this website because the user interface is more esthetically pleasing, and I wouldn’t argue that point. The site looks modern and attractive.
