Heat Treated Citrine

Did I just waste my money?

Today I bought a beautiful crystal cluster, it is glittery and orange and sparkles next to the tea light candles and shells on my desk. A pretty addition to my room and the little information sheet that came with it said that citrine will balance my solar plexus chakra, bring me money, abundance, wealth even through increased confidence, personal power and business accumen. Wow! Who doesn't need a boost to all of those things! I was excited and wanted to show off my new purchase so I sent a photo to my friend Amanda who is slightly more crystal mad than me thinking she might be slightly jealous and tell me a bit more about this new crystal in my collection.

So I was a little miffed when Amanda told me that my"citrine" crystal was not real citrine but actually a heat treated amethyst. I didn't believe my friend at first because in the shop it was clearly labelled as citrine but a quick google and it was pretty clear she was right. Real amethyst is actually a pale yellow and is often cloudy if you are buying at the lower end of the price scale. The bright orange colour was apparently a dead give away to anyone who knows even a small amount about crystals so I felt a bit dumb and also a bit annoyed that I had been sold a dud.

I was pretty let down and disappointed at first, I had bought a crystal that isn't what I thought it was and doesn't really bring the energy I had hoped it would to my work desk. So what did I get instead? If it's heat treated did I just pay for a rock I could have got from my yard? Did I just waste my money? I asked Amanda her honest thoughts about my purchase and if I should keep the crystal.

She had a little laugh at me and said "no the heating process does not take away the energy of the crystal" and "no, it is not the same as any old rock from my garden." But I am right that it is not at all what I thought I was buying and that she thinks that the change of colour actually changes and adds to the energy of the amethyst cluster. "Huh?" I asked.

So, she explains an amethyst is normally purple and associated with your third eye chakra but after the heat treatment it has become orange and now represents your sacral chakra but it is still an amethyst crystal so also still linked to your thrid eye chakra. This means the crystal creates an energetic link between your third eye chakra and your sacral chakra, essentially grounding the higher knowledge of the third eye energy into the creative energy of the sacral chakra and empowering you to creatively communicate with a stronger connection to your spiritual self, almost as though you are now able to channel your higher self into your creative projects - once you really get into alignment with the energy of the crystal and let it work with you for a while." "Oh", I said, "so that's good right?"

So I am going to keep my crystal cluster of heat treated amethyst. It still looks beautiful and inspiring but now it's like extra spiritual as well and can bring clarity to my thoughts and psychic experiences and make me more creative. So now I am kind of glad I bought it and looking forward to the stuff Amanda said about it happening. Amanda said that sometimes the universe gives you what you need and not just what you think you want. Haha isn't she so funny and ironic?
