Hap-Free Birthday – Vegan Edition
Some of the South East Queensland freebies you can get for your birthday
Well, Christmas is over and bank balances are low. 2026 is about to begin, so everyone’s birthdays are ahead of us. Lucky me, I get mine in December. It’s not terrible, but it does mean waiting the whole year to squeeze all my celebrations into one month. I’ve always found that time of year to be pretty tight with money, so I started looking into what I could sign up for to get free things.
There are plenty of other places that offer birthday freebies, but this list focuses on places that have vegan options. I’m just going to go in the order I collected them.

Subway:
This one isn’t entirely vegan… I mean, it can be. You get a free drink and cookie. If you don’t have an omni friend to give the cookie to, just grab the drink. To claim it, you download the Subway Australia app and register your details. This is usually only valid during the week of your birthday.

Donut King:
These guys give you a free drink on your birthday. The cold drinks are very dairy-heavy, but they do have plant-based milks for coffee — you just need to pay extra for the switch. So not entirely free, but a 50c coffee isn’t too bad. To claim this freebie, you need to sign up to DK Rewards via the website or app. It’s valid for your entire birth month.

Crust Pizza:
FREE PIZZA!!! Yes, that’s right — an entire large pizza for free. Their vegan options have dwindled a little, but the Peri Peri Not-Chicken is always my go-to anyway. This is hands down the best value birthday reward: no spend required, and you get a $21 pizza. You can sign up on their website or app. It’s valid for your whole birthday month.

Hungry Jack’s:
Their menu has become less vegan-friendly this year. I got the Veggie Whopper with no cheese or mayo — to the point where it even says on the wrapper that this is not a vegan product. I haven’t shopped there since they got rid of the vegan mayo and cheese. I added my own vegan mayo when I got home. It was a bit difficult to explain what I wanted, and I probably won’t return. This reward is in their app and valid for your entire birthday month.
EB Games & Zing:
These guys give you $10 off when you spend $50. I put it towards my Pokémon Advent Calendar — not even sorry. I think I signed up in-store or online many years ago, and now I just get an email every year. They probably have an app too. You have until the end of your birthday month to spend it.

JB Hi-Fi:
$10 voucher, no spend required. I got myself a Pickle Rick tree ornament. Same as EB — I’ve been a member for a while, so the voucher just gets emailed to me every year. You can likely sign up online or via the app. It’s valid until the end of your birthday month.

Vapiano:
You get a buy-one-get-one-free pizza or pasta. I had their vegan chicken Alfredo and it was delicious. We paid $30 for lunch for two of us, which is a pretty good deal. Sign up via their website or app. You usually have your birthday month and the month after to use it.

Yo-Chi:
Okay, so I didn’t get to use this one. They send you $10 to spend, but you only have two weeks from your birthday — and I was a little slow. I was already there though, so pictured is an example of a vegan Yo-Chi that was about $10.
Boost also does a birthday juice, but it’s only valid for a week, so I missed it. Jamaica Blue, Ate Rewards, Cold Rock, and Baskin Robbins also offer rewards, but I registered too late.
Some tips:
- Register well in advance
- Check how long each voucher is valid
- Try to plan visits to shopping centres where you can pick up a few deals at once
Please note: I am not affiliated with any of these companies. Deals may change year to year, and while I was able to get vegan options in December 2025, menus and items may change. Other companies also likely offer birthday deals. That said, I managed to score somewhere in the vicinity of $80 worth of free stuff — so hap-free birthday to me.
