There are certain major reasons for its popularity. Durability, sustainability, and aesthetics are just a few of those.

So if you’re still making a decision and are confused as to whether or not to choose granite for your countertops, then we’ve made your work simpler! Listed below are the answers to the commonly asked questions about granite countertops.

Answering Commonly Asked Questions Regarding Granite Countertops

Why? Where? When?

1. Why is my granite countertop so rough?

Polished granite countertops, with their smooth glossy surface is something everyone wants to have in their homes. So if you invested in a polished one too but ended with a rough surface after a couple of weeks, then there are four possible reasons:

  1. It may have not been polished properly
  2. It may have not been sealed properly
  3. You chose the wrong textured material
  4. It became rough due to excessive moisture

2. Where will it be more suitable, in a bathroom or kitchen?

Granite countertop materials are equally suitable for both places. But there are certain things that you need to consider before choosing them.

Pros:

  • These materials are highly durable and sustainable
  • They are aesthetically pleasing

Cons:

  • Every time the knife hits the surface while chopping, granite being a hard surface will enforce thrust and in turn, there will be frequent need of getting the knives changed as the edges will turn blunt. As they will go through a lot of wear and tear on the surface.
  • The material is porous. What this means is that it can get stained if the sealing is not applied well.

3. Do granite countertops go with oak cabinets?

Granite countertops look absolutely stunning with oak cabinets. Some more than the others!

Titanium, Giallo, Coffee Brown, and several other granites blend perfectly well with the overall aesthetic. For instance, companies like Aphrodite Marble & Granite Co. provide granite countertops in Manahawkin NJ with craftsmanship in granite, marble, and quartz.

These materials can make your cabinet look rich, elegant, and durable all at once. A great combination nonetheless!

4. When to reseal granite countertops?

The general rule prescribed by the experts in this matter is resealing the granite countertops once every year.

But, this is not always required. Some perfectly sealed countertops may not require to be resealed this often. Also, the darker colours tend to sustain more subtly as compared to the lighter shades.

You should take a sealing test after a year to determine whether you need to reseal your countertops.

5. Where do granite countertops come from?

Granites are not artificially made stones. They are naturally found materials close to the surface of the earth.

A careful process is needed to extract and cut them precisely so that they can be suitable for transportation. This is done while they are still in the form of a block.

After transportation, they are exported to their respective countries to be sold. Here, they are cut into the forms of slabs and sold further.

Although Italy was the original source of stones for many years, Brazil, India, South Africa and China have taken over the granite market in recent years.
