For a good life, eat fruit.

You are what you eat.

The old saying - “you are what you eat” is so true. (Which is why it’s an old saying). Our bodies are all falling apart, mostly because of what we eat. Fast food restaurants are killing us with all the fat and chemicals in it to make it taste good. Americans have an obesity problem, as well as chronic health issues like high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, the list goes on. Big pharma is loving it, they are getting mega rich. And the drugs they are pushing don’t correct the problems, they just mask them, like putting a band aid on to stop the problem temporarily, not to fix the problem. Where’s the profit in that. So maybe we should stop eating the junk out there and start eating and drinking good stuff like fruit. I’ve also noticed that health food is more expensive than bad food, so consider growing your own. At first you will not save money, start ups cost more than just buying someone else’s product, but if you have time on your hands, and the space, and and the interest, growing your own is the way to go.

we all need a hobby, so starting a garden is perfect. You can enjoy the outdoors, fresh air, the smell of soil, seeing the plants grow, is therapeutic for your soul. I love the spring, when your trees come to life after the dead of winter, and green buds spear on limbs, leaves start to unfurl, and flowers appear. And then… fruit emerges from the flowers it is so exciting to see your orchard come to life. Or just your one tree if that’s all you have space for.

‘I am lucky to have 6 acres of land with a flowing creel and a large pond on my property, so years ago I started planting fruit trees. I started off with just 2 pear trees, and then the next year added a peach tree and an apple tree. At first, they just grew with only leaves appearing every spring, but as they started to mature, fruit started to grow. Only two or three, but every year the trees started to produce more fruit. We ate them, freshly picked off the trees while walking around the property, canning them so we can have fruit all year long. That’s another hobby, as well as spending quality time with your spouse and grand kids. Then the next year I planted 3 cherry trees ( I love cherries), a Bing, a Ranier, and a black cherry. So that eventually I will have a colorful assortment of berries displaying in the garden and on the table. Red, yellow and dark purple.

every year I have planted more trees of various assortments, red apples, green apples, lemons, oranges, nectarines, plums of all differs color fruit, pineapple guava, pomegranates, olives, almond and pecan trees, just about anything that will grow in this climate. They are almost all mature, and produce an overwhelming amount of fruit, much more than we can eat. But we also feed the dropped fruit to our chickens, ducks and peacocks, and we also give away or trade with our neighbors and friends.

part of my plan is to sell my fruit, because as I said earlier fruit is becoming expensive to buy at the grocery store. So I came up with two ideas, firstly, pick your own fruit, where customers come to the orchard and have fun picking their own and make a family outing and have fun, and I make money, and secondly, sell at local farmers markets, with my grandson, who is helping me grow, prune, fertilize and pick the fruit off the trees and then sell the fruit. So it will become a business for him when he needs to make an income. Eventually he will inherit the property anyway, and will need to make money, so this will be of benefit to him. He’s fifteen now, and will graduate from high school soon. It’s never too soon to plan.

Fruit is healthy for you, For stress, eat banana and watermelon.

For good skin, eat lemon, apple, coconut and carrot.

For good eyes, eat carrot, apple and vitamin A.

For cough, eat pineapple, garlic and ginger.

For diarrhea, eat coconut and avocado and cabbage.

For good gut, eat cabbage, garlic and onions.

For hydration, eat cucumber orange and watermelon.

For good kidney, drink 2-3 liters of water a day, eat beans and tomato.

For good heart, eat avocado, eat Beans, garlic and onions.

For good prostate, eat tomato, Sour sop and carrots and beans.

For more red blood cells, eat beetroot, carrot and cucumber.

For good erection, eat watermelon, Carrot and banana and nuts.

For strong bones & immunity, eat eggs, fish and beef.

Eat fruits everyday.

I also have a vegetable garden, with tomatoes, onions, melon, squash, bell peppers and beans. Fertilizer is expensive, so I have a compost box which I put scraps of food and fish guts from the large pond into it and then place the enriched soil around the trees and in the veggie garden. So I keep busy and outdoors, which is health , stress relieving and fun. Oh, and I’m retired, so although it sounds like a lot of work, and it is, I have the time.
