Five Ways to Balance Life
5 Ways to Get Your Life Back on Balance
Life is a balanced process, and you can't avoid the fact that you will always struggle at work, at home, money, health and relationships. While we are doing all this, we have one goal in mind - to succeed on all fronts.
Many times I have tried to achieve this goal and I have had to pay a very high price. During these stressful times, my mental, physical and spiritual well-being was exhausted. My life was spiraling out of control. There was no balance in my life at all, which is not the best way to live and is definitely unsustainable.
He says you have to get to the point of despair before you realize the fact that you have to make a choice - do I continue to wander out of control or do I give up waning my life? Balance again?
I choose to rebalance my life. So, here are 5 simple things I did to start the journey of organizing my life. Follow these tips to get your life back on track.
1. Find out what a balanced life means to you.
Finding balance in your life is about finding your center - a place where you can feel calm, present and happy. To get to this point of balance, you need to know what it means to live a balanced life.
In his article on how to lead a well-balanced life, Gustavo Razzetti stated:
Balance is not something we can achieve. This is the state of mind. The feeling is that life is not static but constantly moving.
For me, to get into the mindset of living a balanced life, I wrote down a list of all the activities that I liked to do and gave me peace, happiness and a good feeling.
Then I prioritized these activities on the top 5 which I will keep in my life.
- Exercise for 60 minutes daily.
- Mindfulness - 10 minutes of daily meditation
- Thanksgiving Journal - Every night, I write 5 things I am thankful for that day (sometimes, I miss some nights but no more than 3 nights).
- Don't watch TV or go to bed on my phone.
- Healthy eating is a top priority - limit my alcohol intake to 2 nights a week and my special meal (Crescent of Almonds) to one every other Friday!
I knew I had to develop a more positive mindset, and these 5 activities helped me to do that.
2. Stop trying multi-tasks and learn to prioritize.
Our brains are not connected to multitasking. The more we do multi-tasks, the more pressure we put on our brains. The reason we do multitasking is because we believe that doing multitasking is a valuable and a huge asset. However, what happens is that we have hundreds of ideas at a time and are constantly chirping in our minds!
It really slows you down and instead of focusing on the "one thing" you need to do, you get distracted and go from one thing to another and achieve very little. By the end of the day, you're tired!
Balancing is not about crushing a lot of things in your daily life. It is about knowing what is important and what is not and it is about knowing how much potential and energy you need to invest in what is important to you.
Knowing your priorities, staying focused, and managing your time is the key to rebalancing your life.
3. Learn how to say no and release the need to get over the limit.
Being prepared to say "no" is an important step in balancing your life. There are many reasons why we say yes when we are overly committed and our lives are getting out of control.
For me, saying yes to another project or opportunity means that people will see that I am a high achiever and successful. I could not say because it would mean that people would think that I was not capable or successful. Go understand that one! My life was spiraling out of control, but I kept saying yes.
What did I do when I said yes I was promising far more than I could deliver and working on projects I really didn't want to do? I learned that by saying no, I created opportunities for myself to work on things that I really enjoyed, and as a result, regained my life with a lot of energy.
Learning to say "yes" without resentment and saying "no" without remorse is the first step for you to live a balanced life.
4. Create calm spaces in your life and mind
When you are living a life that is out of balance, you are on speed dial. There's so much going on in your life, and you have so much to do that you feel like you're running a race you can't win!
Your body will tell you when your life is out of control. One of the first symptoms is poor quality sleep. There is so much in your brain that you can't sleep, and after a while, your energy level starts to drop. Your brain feels dull, and there seems to be chaos and chaos everywhere in your life.
If you recognize these symptoms, the best solution is to take action and find ways to make a place in your life where you can sit quietly and feel at ease.
Be aware that you will not immediately reach this state of calm and clarity because your mind and body are connected with chaos, disorder and constant chirping. This is a step-by-step process.
Here are 3 things I did that helped me create the place I needed to be calm and peaceful:
- I downloaded the Calm app - an app for sleep and mediation. I made a vow at the end of the day where I would take a shower, drink a cup of calm tea, and then meditate using calm.
- I scheduled a massage every 2 weeks for 3 months and paid for all the sessions. There was no excuse for me to postpone the meeting because I was too busy and did not have time. If I had to postpone, I would have to reschedule immediately because I had paid for the sessions.
- Journaling - This is a process that requires minimal commitment. However, the results had a tremendous effect on me. Journaling allowed me to have a place in my mind and a sense of calm in my body. I was able to recognize what was in my mind, and that meant that my thoughts and feelings left my mind and my body, and I felt calm.
5. Adopt a healthy lifestyle; healthy diet and regular exercise
A healthy diet provides natural energy and boosts your confidence and self-esteem. Exercise releases endorphins, the chemicals in our body that make us feel good.
I made an appointment with a nutritionist to find out which healthy eating plan would work best for me. I paid for a 2 month consultation, which meant I would be less likely to get lost and make excuses as to why I could not stick to the program!
I've always been very active. However, as I turned 50, I realized that my body no longer needed high-intensity training, but instead needed low-intensity, strenuous exercise. I quit my running and gym membership and started doing yoga, pilates, and walking!
I am 100% sure that a healthy diet and regular exercise are the foundation on which I can lead a balanced life.
My thoughts on self-discipline
When my life starts to lose its balance, I realize that I lack self-discipline. I have learned that self-discipline is a great tool to help me get to the top of my life. Without self-discipline, I waste time, delay, and fail to do the things I know I should do. As a result, I feel guilty, overwhelmed, and overwhelmed. This is not a great place.
Following these 5 steps to get my life back was the key to a well-balanced life where over time self-discipline and overcoming delays is not a big problem for me. Here it is.
Living a well-balanced life is important not only for your health, happiness and well-being but also for increasing your productivity, overcoming stress, and living your life to the best of your ability.
So, get your life in balance now!
We can be sure that our greatest hope is to maintain balance in any situation.
