This article is simply written to provide tips for better time management to cannabis users who are having a hard time staying on top of their day to day tasks.
Fortunately, time blocking is a great way for cannabis users to take control of their lives and maximize efficiency. Implementing the simple technique of time blocking frees up a lot of mental energy and gives you visual control of your day, and in turn, illuminates the guilt that may come from not knowing how you have spent your time. In this blog post, we'll discuss the benefits of time blocking and how cannabis users can make the most of this powerful tool.
How do you Begin?
- First Schedule your sleep time:
All you need to begin is a smart phone with a calendar app installed. Then go on to blocking out your sleep time; ensure to block the time you go to bed and the time that you wake up. Blocking your sleep time into a mobile calendar is essential. The reason you should use a mobile calendar app as opposed to a traditional planner when time blocking is simple, our phones are always with us and can actually alarm when it's time to sleep , when its time to wake up and when its time to move on to another task.
In addition, a good night’s rest is the foundation of having enough energy and focus to be productive and successful the next day, so it would make sense to schedule this in first. Finally, stick to the sleep routine set for yourself to achieve better quality of sleep, get enough rest and make the most out of each new day.
Now there are snoozers and there are morning ninjas, now the snoozers, you know who you are…. the alarm goes off, you groan a little, and snooze about 3 times before getting out of bed. The morning ninjas….., they are different! The alarm goes off, well barely, … eyes open, cover off, and a backflip out of bed. Know yourself and take that into account when setting your sleep routine.
- Find your optimal times for productivity:
Know when you are most productive during a 24-hour day, and build your routine around that. Do not set up yourself for failure, know yourself! Honor yourself! Become intentional about the tasks that you bring over into your calendar and the time of day that you set for yourself to complete them, why would you set an important task for 8am in the morning if you are not a morning person? Also, if you notice reduced performance or alertness when using cannabis, especially during tasks that heavily depend on these faculties, you may just be a rookie, here, you practice Will and Self Control, ...from now on, you will use cannabis as a reward system at the end of the long day.
While stoned, choose any activity to sharpen attention and focus and perform it daily for 10 - 15 minutes. Getting through a page of reading without getting distracted, exercising, breathing, whatever the activity of focus of your choosing, the intention is the strengthen your faculties of attention, so that you are able to perform at optima with or without cannabis. If you can make it through 15 minutes of deep focus, increase the time of practice, and use your phone to aid as a reminder.
After blocking your sleep time, you should move on to blocking your time for work, make sure to include also the time of your commute, if any. Block meal times and prep/ delivery time, then take a look at your calendar at a full day's glance, what you see then, is a true representation of how much time, in the day, you actually have. If you use recreational cannabis, then time blocking can help you achieve your goals, during whatever time you have. The cool part is, its your time blocking calendar, so you can even schedule in your cannabis use as a documented routine.
By breaking up your day into manageable chunks, you can ensure that you’re making time for the important things and can see where fun and relaxation time fits in. This way, less time is wasted, you gain more control over your day and you don't feel like you're being pulled in too many directions. With time blocking, you can make sure you’re both productive and have time for leisure activities.
- Set reminders; mentally declutter
Use reminders in your phone as an awareness tool. The stop watch for tasks that require speed, or set alarms to provide updates of what you should be working on or what is coming up. If you use cannabis, then time blocking is even more important, it will help you remain focused and alert. With a bit of practice and dedication, you'll find that time blocking can be a powerful tool in optimizing your habit of productivity.
- Take breaks between each block:
If you love using cannabis, and this has been your choice, remember these simple steps as you enjoy its benefits. It is very important to take breaks before beginning any new task as it allows for a reset and gives you a chance to take a breather before beginning the next task.
Take your time blocking journey seriously, and it will help you get things done faster and with greater accuracy all while enjoying weed. Remember, time blocking is ultimately a habit that you would have to develop, and the more you do it, the more it becomes apart of you.
