Can I make money selling wax melts?
SURE! And here’s 5 tips to get you started…

So you absolutely LOVE wax melts. You love them so much you’re starting to think this could be the perfect business for you. The only thing is, every cat, dog and their wife seem to be doing it, so can you really make money in such a saturated market?
Well of course you can.
Here are 5 tips to get you started on the road to success.
1. What will make you different?
You’ve scoured all of the best and most successful wax melt pages. And if you do exactly what they’re doing you are bound to have success right? WRONG! One of the best tips I can give in this department is finding your point of difference. What do you provide that no other wax melt business can? For my own business it was quirky moulds and skilled pouring, I went the extra mile to perfect my pouring technique so that I could pour wax melts in a way that no other business was doing. I saw that all of the huge wax melt businesses at the time didn’t have what I had and that’s what made a big difference. As soon as I started to think outside of the box the sales came rolling in. This may sound big-headed to you, and maybe it is, but this leads us onto tip number 2…
2. SHOUT ABOUT YOUR PRODUCT!
The customers are out there but they are not going to buy from you if you are not confident in your own products. Spend enough time perfecting your craft so that you feel comfortable about complimenting your own creations. Share what you’re doing and don’t stop talking about how amazing it is. Wax melts are bought for how good they smell for the most part right? So if they smell good and you know it, SAY IT! Generally, you’re going to have to persuade people to start buying your wax melts instead of someone else’s and to do that you need to convince them that it will be worth it. If you truly believe your melts are the bees knees it will shine through in how you talk about them. Like a proud mother with her baby! It can sometimes feel like you’re at a slight disadvantage selling wax melts online as your customers can’t smell through screens! It’s your job to fill in the blanks.
3. Use social media wisely.
It’s great to build a name for your business on social media, but it’s not a good idea to spread yourself too thinly, especially if you’re a one man business. From experience I would say that choosing your favourite form of social media will be the best way forward in terms of getting sales. If you love Facebook and someone is telling you you need an Instagram page to get sales for example, do you. Stick to what you know and love already. Don’t give yourself the extra task of learning a new app or putting up with using an app you don’t like when you’re just starting out. Amongst other things, by using too many apps or using apps you don’t like you will actually end up decreasing your productivity. You will find it a lot easier to stay consistent on one app you love compared to three you hate.

4. High quality photographs.
One of the first things I did after starting up my business was upgrading my phone. This was purely for the upgraded camera capabilities. High quality photographs directly translate a valuable message to your customers and that is ‘high quality product’. If you have a decent camera on your phone and you can set up your products near a window in daylight it will do so much in terms of boosting the look of your products. Your customers want to see clearly exactly what you’re offering. So this I would say is a huge one in terms of sales conversion. You can have an incredible product but if your customers can’t see it you won’t get the sales.
5. Give out freebies!
With any new business word of mouth can make or break you, so it can be hard putting yourself out there and handing out some freebies/testers for people to give their honest feedback on. Logically though, not only are you gaining valuable information, if the person really liked your product they will be sure to tell someone about it. This is an amazing way to not only make someone’s day but spread the word about your business and increase sales. This one should be used with caution as you don’t want to put yourself out of pocket, but especially when you’re just starting out you should definitely factor in a portion of your piggy bank towards freebies and promotional giveaways etc!
I really hope you enjoyed reading these tips, and if you are thinking of starting a wax melt business, or any business for that matter just remember. YOU CAN DO THIS!
Sometimes the biggest thing holding you back is you, or rather what others might think. Just keep your vision in mind and don’t stop until you get there!
