6 Side Hustles That You Can Do on Weekends
Whether you’re interested in sports, concerts, or AI, here are some ways to earn extra cash on weekends.
Not all side hustles have to be done between Monday and Friday. If you’re looking to bring in some extra income but not make your weekdays even more hectic than they already are, you’re in luck.
There are many gigs that are well suited for weekend work, including a few that can make the weekends even more fun. And while you earn extra income, your side hustle doesn’t have to take up the entirety of your days off. Here are some ideas to consider:
Run a resale operation
People sell treasures for peanuts every weekend at garage and estate sales just to declutter their homes. Savvy side hustlers, though, can spot those items and resell them for significantly higher prices. Since these sorts of sales typically happen on weekends, you won’t have to spend much, if any, of your weeknights focused on this gig. You can resell the items on eBay, Facebook Marketplace, Etsy, or elsewhere—and, in the case of online auctions, you can set the sales to end on a Friday, shipping items the following day.
Event security
Ticket prices to concerts, sports events, theater, and more are out of control these days. You can sometimes volunteer as an usher and enjoy the show for free, but why not earn a little money at the same time? Working as an event security guard, you’ll help with crowd management and enforcing bag policies while soaking in the sounds and sights. Check sites like Indeed and BeBee for listings.
Security not your thing? Brand ambassadors are also often at these events, handing out T-shirts and products. Explore sites like Oppizi and ATN to find gigs.
Oversee a dog park
Dogwalkers and cat sitters have pretty cool side hustles, but if you have broader ambitions, and some land you’re not using, you could rent that out as a private dog park, setting the hours that work best for you. Sites like Sniffspot allow people to rent out their property for off-leash play, with some hosts earning up to $3,000 per month. Just make sure you’re OK with scooping a little poop.
Publish a newsletter
As with any influencer position, you’ll need to work to build an audience before this side hustle begins to show any financial returns (which with newsletters, usually come via subscriptions, affiliate links, or sponsorships). But once you do so, you can dedicate one day a week to writing and editing. Sites like Substack and Ghost are popular options for people who want to share tips or who have insights on specialized topics, which can range from in-depth interviews to roller coaster reviews.
Create AI tools
Artificial intelligence is intimidating to some, but if you have some knowledge of how to use systems like ChatGPT and Perplexity, creating tools that can service wide audiences doesn’t have to take a lot of time. (Often, the AI will write the necessary code for you.) And even if you’re intimidated by AI, there are sites like Gumloop, which lets you visually build workflows that can be run at large scale. Using a drag-and-drop template, you can create workflows that do just about anything. Once you’ve created the tools, you can list them for sale on your preferred marketplace or host them on a subscriber-driven website.
Be a referee or umpire
If sports are an important part of your weekend but your playing days are behind you, consider a side hustle as a referee or umpire. The job pays anywhere from $20 to $75 per game, depending on where you live and which age division you choose to focus on.
