6 Costly Mistakes To Avoid While Designing Your Interior

There are certain mistakes which should be avoided while designing your interior.

As everybody knows, redesigning your interior or designing it from scratch costs you an arm and a leg. And not every year you can save thousands of dirhams to redesign it if something goes at the first attempt.

So you are better off preparing –or I should say researching the ins and outs of interior design– before you roll your sleeves and dive into the process.

This post is going to be a life-saver for you if you want to get it right the first time. No regrets, no furniture damage, no inappropriate arrangement of the furniture, nothing like that.

Just be with us right till the end!

6 Costly Mistakes To Avoid While Designing Your Interior

1.Not Measuring the Space, or Getting it Wrong!

This is an absolute nightmare. You have brought in hundreds of thousands of dirhams worth of furniture, but it’s of no use now. (You’d be extremely lucky if you can exchange it with the right size).

You either didn’t bother to measure the space available or the total size of your room, or messed up the measurement. Nothing can be done now.

But if you haven’t ordered your furniture yet, it’s time to measure the space of every room. Measure it twice, you can’t miss a single inch – especially when you already have a short space.

2.Buying Furniture without Consider the Available Space

You see a furniture ad online, it’s backed by a guarantee, has aesthetic appeal, and you make up your mind to order it. Did you miss anything? Yes, you didn’t bother to inquire about or read the dimensions.

When the furniture shows up at your doorstep, your eyes light up. But when you bring it to your room, you realize it can’t fit in. The bed is too small, while the dining table is a little too wide to be squeezed into your short drawing-room.

And the worst bit is, you can’t return it. Because it’s your fault ( no guarantee says, ”Wrong measurements from your end also covered.”) In the end, you watch in horror when overs-sized stuff is dumped like scrapes here and there in your house.

3.Preferring Aesthetics Over Sturdiness of the Furniture

Our natural instinct is to buy something luxurious and fancy. And when we see a cheap price tag attached to that piece of furniture our mind simply goes into the buying mode.

But did you ever consider for a moment how come the seller is willing to sell it at such a low price? The problem is with the material. It’s too flimsy…probably won’t last more than a couple of years.

You should only purchase it if your budget is low for now, and you are OK to trade strength for aesthetics. But if you are up for a long-term solution, always keep the quality of the material at the top of your priority checklist.

4.Bad Lighting

Lightning can add some magic to your room – anyone walking in would instantly feel a change in mood. But… lightning can leave a big dent on your electricity bills, too!

So why not use natural lightning? When setting your interior, particularly the lighting aspect, make your space easily accessible to the natural light. Let secondary lights be only for night hours.

Also, if you require secondary lights (like energy savers, bulbs, tube lights) consider the paint of your room. Make sure your room is properly lit when the lights are on.

Buy energy-efficient floor lamps and table lights for reading and writing work at night.

5.Ignoring the Fabric

Your comfort ultimately depends on the quality of the fabric, doesn’t it? The fabric for your rugs, sofa and chairs greatly impact the time you spend inside. Upon returning from work, you plump down on the sofa.

When tiredness takes a toll on your body, all you want is a good night sleep – which is impossible if your pillow is not comfortable, or your bed feels too hard/soft for your back.

So count your options online, find out the best fabric for your use, and use it on your sofas, bed, chairs. Even the rugs you buy should be made of high-quality fabric that can withstand rough use.

6.Starting without a Plan

And the last mistake is obvious: you start without a concrete plan in place. When we take on the job of designing our interior, we believe in our instincts and buy and arrange furniture based on a whim.

This approach( which is no-approach at all in reality) leads to doom – a complete waste of your hard-earned cash. So before you start, be clear about what you want to achieve with this investment.

Ask yourself:

Why are you redesigning your interior?

If you are designing from scratch, what kind of interior do you fancy?

What’s your budget?

Can you afford to experiment or should you replicate someone else's amazing interior design idea/approach?

Final Words

If you don’t have the time and prior experience of designing an interior, let home interior designers in Dubai take care of your interior. Why take risks, trust your instincts, or experiment when you can’t afford to?

There’s no point in taking unnecessary stress when an interior designer can save you a lot of money without compromising the look and feel of your house.
