With the beginning of 2021 FINALLY here, its time for the yearly ritual of deciding to make a positive change in our lives. Some fan favorites include:

1. Lose weight

2.Go to the gym more

3. Get "in shape"

You get the picture. These resolutions are difficult to stick to and often leave us feeling like failures when we can't stick it out. So, what if this year, we decide to pursue other resolutions? Ones that are easily trackable and don't require a gym membership. Here are five examples of resolutions that don't involve your weight and will leave you feeling accomplished.

1. Create a new morning routine

What's a better place to begin than the beginning of the day? Starting your day in a positive place can have a powerful impact on your day. Your new routine doesn't need to be perfect and doesn't nee to be worked out down to the minute. For example, you can decide that immediately upon waking, you stretch, drink some water, then enjoy a few minutes without your phone. Just a small change here and there and BOOM you already are off to a better day.

2.Support small businesses

In the wake of a massive, international pandemic, small businesses are floundering all over the country. Consider visiting a family owned restaurant or boutique a little more often this year. You'll be helping your local economy and maybe even brightening someone's day.

3.Work on your self talk

I know, I know. This sounds like some self- help "woo woo" nonsense. BUT give it a shot. Next time your coming down on yourself because of a mistake or an awkward encounter, don't berate yourself. You can crush your own confidence with negativity. Next time, slow down, breath and say "Oops, I made a mistake. Better luck next time." Then move on, don't obsess or linger on your faults. If its a skill your lacking, keep practicing. If its awkward social interactions, keep getting out there. Just remember, support yourself.

4. Reduce your fast fashion spending

We all need new clothes, and I'm certainly not recommending you buy used undies. My point here is that second hand shops and apps have millions of items available and some of them are brand new. Next time you need new jeans or a wedding outfit, check out a thrift store before hoping online. Fast fashion contributes massively to waste and most companies don't treat their employees ethically. 5. Declutter your house

Go in your closet right now and look around. How chaotic is it? Is it easy to find your clothes before work? Do you have stuff you don't wear? Start there, get rid of one item a day. You can sell, donate or gift what isn't working for you. Decluttering can seem a bit overwhelming and scary. So, start small, go one space at a time, only eliminating one thing a day. Once you get the bug for it your house will be a calmer place in no time!

And, there you have it. A whole list of resolutions that aren't about losing weight! Small changes can be majorly impactful, so think about what you want to achieve this year and break it down into smaller steps. Do you have any unique resolutions?
