"That is why I sent my prophets to you with my message of judgement and destruction. What I want from you is plain and clear: I want your constant love, not your annual sacrifices. I would rather have my people know me than burn sacrifices to me."- Hosea 6v5-6 (GNT)
One morning as I lay on my bed looking outside the window, I, for the first time realized the grace and intent that went into the creation of all nature around us. It would have been sufficient to just have light appear in the day and darkness in the night. But instead The Lord carefully created the earth and everything in it with great intent and consideration. He created it in a way that is pleasing to our eyes and has the ability to bring us peace just by looking at it. We are to look at creation and marvel at the visible and tangible work of an unseen God. Also, we are to be reminded of just how near to us He is (Acts 17v27). Isn't it amazing that when we look at the sky we are looking at something that God Himself created? I find that to be such an honor (Genesis1v1-4)!
"How clearly the sky reveals God's glory! How plainly it shows what He has done!"- Psalm 19v1
Throughout time God has always had someone to be a mediator between Him and His people. He has never been a God who rules from a distance. For the children of Israel He elected Moses to be the vessel through which He communicates with His people. He wanted the people to know His heart. He even walked with them as a pillar of cloud to show them the way and as a pillar of fire to give them light during the night(Exodus 13v21). He was once again, just like with the sky, making Himself visible to His people so they could know that He is close and always with them.
Some time later God Himself came down in the form of a human being (Jesus Christ). He dwelt among the people(John 1v14). He ate with them, taught them, loved them, healed them, delivered them and died for them. He was and is always with them. He was never far.
After Jesus went to Heaven, He left us with the Holy Spirit(John 14v26). Through His Spirit, God continues to teach us and be close to us(Hebrews 10v19-25).
Therefore, through the prophets, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, God has always been drawing us to Himself. He has always made ways and efforts to show us that He is not too far from us. He is reachable and always wants to commune with us. Look at the stories of Abraham, Paul, and Enoch.
"For you have granted him authority over all people that He might give eternal life to all those You have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." - John 17v2-3
"And again, observe the days of summer how the sun is above the earth. And you seek shade and shelter because of the heat of the sun, and the earth also burns with growing heat, and so you cannot walk on the earth or on a rock because of its heat.
Observe how the trees are covered with green leaves and how they bear fruit. Understand, know, and recognize that He that lives forever made them this way for you."- The Book Of Enoch
"I am always aware of the Lord's presence; he is near, and nothing can shake me. And so I am thankful and glad, and I feel completely secure..."- Psalm 16v8-9
