I’ve been writing on Vocal Media for a while but honestly, it’s been a tough road. I went from earning at least $500 a month at one point, to earning pennies on the dollar. So what did I do? I quit! Yes, I quit. I stopped writing and publishing on Vocal and went all out on Medium.com instead.

In 2024, something shocking happened on Medium, they stopped sharing your articles to your followers, and started using something called a boost system which means that special boost nominators pick the best articles to go viral. This means that it really doesn’t matter how many followers you have on Medium, most of them won’t see your content. Yes, if readers to subscribe to your feed, they’ll receive your articles in their inbox, but other than that, your articles won’t get distributed to your audience.

That sucks right? Yes, it’s really painful because I used to make $5000 a month on Medium without even trying, and now I’m barely making $100 a month. I’ve stopped publishing daily content there, and I won’t go back to that schedule any time soon.

I’ve recently come back to Vocal after realizing that I received at least five affiliate sales from Vocal traffic in 2024. I’m back now and I’m working on some really cool content. These days, I don’t stick to a specific niche, I focus on creating content from the heart instead.

I used to be heavy into the “make money online” niche unitl I realized that I prefer to write about whatever I want insteead. I don’t like restricting myself anymore. These days, I wake up and write about movies, health, family, friendship, relationships, politics, news, celebrities, whatever I want. It’s so freeing to write whatever I want without feeling the need to think of a topic that matches with my chosen niche.

I’m also working on some SEO content which means that I’ll get more traffic from the search engines.

Ok, so can you make money on Vocal? You can, but you certainly won’t become a millionaire from writing here, but you can make some extra money and build your audience.

The type of content that I’ve noticed makes more money on Vocal is shock factor content. The type of content that shocks and intrigues people. For example, right now, the Menendez Brothers case is really taking off in the press, and on social media so I believe that articles about this particular case will do pretty well on Vocal and other plaforms.

Keeping up with the election and the P Diddy case for example, these are all good stories. Local, sI'hocking news, stories that are trending in local towns are also good.

Most days, I scroll through Google News and Twitter to find the latest news stories to write about. At one point, I was posting at least two Google News stories a day, now I post at least once a day on my blog. I’m about to start a challenge on Vocal where I post at least one news stories a day, because honestly the Google News method is extremely lucrative.

I’ll explain the Google News method in another article, but it’s a really powerful way to make money online, and I’ll stand by it as long as I create written and visual content for the Internet.

So, yes, you can make money on Vocal but you have to stay consistent, you can’t post once a week, or whenever you feel like it, you must create a writing routine if you really want to make money here.

I think it’s best to post daily, because I’ve noticed the writetrs who achieve the most top stories are the ones who post daily, some of these writers are posting at least three times a day, or more. You know, at one point, I was posting at least three articles a day on Medium, I stopped when I realized I was wasting my content because these articles were getting no tractiom. However, on Vocal, I think it’s worth posting several times a day, it works.

I’ve done several challenges here, and I’m about to start another one. I’d suggest you start a writing and publishing challenge if you want to achieve success on Vocal. For example, challenge yourself to publish one article a day for the next seven days, then extend that challenge for antoher week. Work your way up to posting daily for a whole month. I know, it sounds difficult, but it’s really not that hard. Once you build momentum, you’ll notice how easy it is publish daily.

You don’t have to post several times a day, but if you want to accelerate your growth, I’d suggest it.

In the end, it’s best to build a newsletter, create a blog, write on several platforms, and branch out to video content on YouTube as well, because these platforms can turn on you at any time. In fact, I’ve had several Vocal accounts deleted with no explanation. My Hubpages account got deleted and they wiped all my articles with no warning. They provided no explanation and didn’t pay me for the articles I had published in the final month before they deleted my account.

So, find your flow on Vocal, add another platform, and build your own medie empire. Good luck!
