I've been working from home for roughly five years now, ever since I turned eighteen and joined clickworker. At first it was out of necessity. My mental health isn't the best, and leaving the house for a typical job gives me major anxiety. With the onset of COVID-19, more people are working from home, and others are still trying to find a job that will pay the bills. Unfortunately, if you're looking for a work from home job that doesn't require a regular schedule, you'll typically be classified as an independant contractor, and employers take advantage of that in the way of low wages.
In my five years of working from home, I've tried countless gig jobs: Amazon's Mturk, Clickworker, UberEats, Respondology, Shipt, etc. I've also tried some menial survey sites such as SurveyJunkie, Qmee, and Swagbucks. If you don't mind work that takes little brainpower, some of these jobs can be great. I, for one, tend to work while watching my favorite TV shows. With some of the others, you can slave away eight hours a day and only end up with a couple dollars.
I've had several people ask me which jobs I'd recommend. At one point I kept a list of all the jobs I've tried, as well as a short review of them, to send to people asking my advice. After all, most blogs advertising their own list of work from home jobs do a poor job of telling the reality of said jobs. You can search page after page of Google results promising "$10 per survey!" or "Work four hours, make $100!", and little, if any, of these sites actually lead you anywhere promising.
As a result, I think it's time to start posting honest reviews of popular work from home sites. I plan on posting here, to Vocal, every other week, focusing on one job at a time. I'll work one job for forty hours (ideally fit into one week, but for some jobs that pay horribly I'll need to supplement my income with others, so I can only promise 20 hours a week), keeping track of my income along the way. I'll take notes of any tricks I use to make the job easier or more profitable, as well as how much of the time is actually spent working vs waiting for tasks. Each review will have my total amount made in those 40 hours posted with proof, as well as the hourly breakdown and whether I find it worthwhile or not.
The first job I will review is Respondology, a remote job done entirely from your mobile device- they don't allow you to work from your laptop. Respondology provides social media moderating services to brands and influencers around the globe. You have to apply online, take a training course, and pass a test in order to start working for them, but after that it's easy work. You choose the brands you'd like to moderate for, read their "guidelines" (a list of what they want removed and what they'd like to remain visible to the public) and then test your knowledge of the guidelines. Once you have passed at least one brand's test, comments will begin appearing on the app, accompanied by a red "thumbs down" button if the comment needs to be removed and a green "thumbs up" if the comment is okay to stay up. Respondology pays half a cent per comment moderated. It's not much, but the comments are quick to review.
My review of Respondology should be written by the 29th of October. Following that, I'll begin my review of another company. Let me know in the comments if there are any work from home jobs you'd like me to review! If I'm already a member there, it'll be no problem. If I'm not, I'll apply and go from there!
