Why My Writing is So Much Better Than Your Writing

This is absolutely true, and I don’t care what you think about it

My writing is so much better than your writing. The comparison between the two isn’t even close. I realize that this is likely hard to hear. You’re probably angry just reading this statement. I get it. I would be as well.

Our writing is so personal. So emotional. Often, we feel it is truly excellent work, the next literary masterpiece that the world will undoubtedly fall all over itself over while the Pulitizer people laugh at all of the other nominated works. At least they tried.

But I’m telling you, yours isn’t as good as you think. Mine is better. 10 out of 10 times, mine is going to be more clever, more polished, wittier, with far fewer misspellings and grammar errors, and likely to be read by far more people than yours. You need to trust me on this one. I wouldn’t lie to you just to protect your feelings.

So you can be pissed off or you can do better. You can allow these statements to hurt your feelings, and you can pick up your ball and go home. Or you can decide whether or not to use them to fuel your writer’s fire. To work harder, to think of better ways to write, and to be even more clever and humorous so that your writing stands out to more people.

“Well, Jason, what’s going to be your choice?”

Second and Third Draft-Jason is right. He IS a better writer than I am. There’s no way my initial first draft is going to be anywhere near the quality of his writing. I hate that prick, but he’s right. Now what?

He’s got it going on. His blogs and articles are going to outperform and earn far more money than my first initial drafts that I am tempted to just bang out in an hour and immediately post. I hate saying these words out loud, hearing them just makes me sick to my stomach. However, I need to calm down and be patient. Then I need to work both smarter and harder.

I will need to proofread and then revise. I’ll want to be thorough and see if there are slow spots in between the great stuff I’ve sprinkled throughout the blog or article. I’ll strive to inject even more humor, sarcasm, or wit to make my audience laugh and draw them into each particular writing piece. I’ll want them to absolutely shine and be noticed among all the other blogs and articles that are out there.

This is the secret to being a better writer than most. These are the things I’ll need to do in order to build a larger following. And to keep it. I’m willing to put the work in so that other people will find humor, laughter, and value in my writing. I owe it to my followers, both current and future. I plan to take this to the top and need to put my full effort into making this happen.

Taking the easy way out and being prideful and arrogant about my first drafts, and assuming they are automatically amazing is not conducive to reaching my writing goals. If I want to be the best, I’ll need to do the things the best do. Half-assing my writing just to get it posted quicker on Medium and start earning income will not be my preferred method. That’s lazy, ineffective, and a recipe for failure. I’m not going to do that.

So I’ll take your advice, Second and Third Draft-Jason. You’ve done pretty well in the short time you’ve been writing on Medium. It would be foolish of me to get offended by your somewhat harsh words and advice. Yet, I know I’ll be better for it if I listen to you and take the knowledge you’re attempting to impart to me because you actually care about my results.

Thank you, Sir. You’ve motivated me to up my game. I’ll see your cocky yet wise words, and raise you a curated story. This next piece will be chosen for further distribution and my 9th Top Writer Badge will be on its way soon. You can count on that. &:^)
