Why it's important to pursue your passions
Are you putting your real goals on hold? It may be time to take them off the shelf, give them a dusting, and get to work making them real. Read to learn why.
We all want to find success in life. But what does that really mean? For some people, success is measured by wealth or fame. Others may define it as happiness, health, or helping others. There are endless possibilities. But one thing is for sure: we all have different ideas about success. And that's okay.
The important thing is to pursue whatever you're passionate about.
However, it often seems like 'real life' gets in the way of our dreams. We get caught up in the day-to-day grind and forget what we're truly passionate about. Or, we may be afraid to pursue our passions because we're worried about failing.
Not to mention, many people are quick to give their opinion on what you should do with your life.
If you've been putting off what you really want to do in life, you want to reconsider your actions.
In this post, I'd like to share mental blocks and misconceptions you might be holding on to - that impact whether you follow your goals.
Hopefully, at the end of this post, you'll be convinced that you should take some kind of step right now to pursue your passions.
4 reasons you should pursue your passions right away
Your 'unrealistic' goals are likely realistic
When you have big goals, they can be scary. And they also seem 'unrealistic' to other people.
This is because when we think of big goals, we look at the end result and skim over the process needed to get there.
Or we realize that it takes a lot of work and time to do something big, and we're worried that we can't do it soon enough.
However, big goals are possible to accomplish. But you have to accept that it will be a process.
Some goals like running a successful business can take years. Becoming an accomplished writer or artist can take a lifetime.
You have to be willing to put in the time and work to make it happen.
The truth is that with time and consistent effort, there is a good chance of reaching your goal. Or a part of it. And that's no small thing either.
Time is limited
I recommend reading the book 'Four Thousand Weeks' by Oliver Burkeman. It's a short read, but it really puts things into perspective when it comes to time and life.
Burkeman makes us painfully aware that we only have four thousand weeks to live on average. And we need to make decisions on how to use that time wisely.
You want to work on your goals sooner rather than later. As we saw in the last section, passion projects can take a long time to accomplish.
And if you're waiting for the 'right time', it may never come. The truth is that there is no perfect time to start. You have to make time for your passions.
You'll be happier if you pursue your passions
'Follow your passion' is sage advice that you've likely heard before. But it's easier said than done.
It's one thing to be passionate about something. It's another thing actually to do something about it.
Very often, we fall into the trap of doing the safe thing. The thing that we know won't rock the boat. We stay in our comfort zones because it's easier.
But an unfulfilling comfort zone can be a prison of our own making. And the sooner you recognize this, the better.
However, this doesn't mean that you have to quit your job right away or make drastic shifts (unless it's feasible).
But you can take small and deliberate steps to work on your passions outside of your 9-5.
This can be setting up your Facebook Page for a craft business on the weekends. Or it can be taking an evening class to learn calligraphy.
The important thing is that you make time for your passions. And as you do, you'll find that you're happier because you're working on something that you care about.
You'll perform better at the things you care about
Why? Because when you're passionate about something, you'll naturally put your heart and soul into it. And when you do that, success is sure to follow.
Think about it this way: if you're passionate about something, you're more likely to stick with it even when things get tough. Pursuing your passions also allows you to tap into your creativity and come up with innovative solutions to problems. All of these things will help you create you r success story, no matter what it looks like.
Conclusion
So don't be afraid to go after your passions. It may not be easy, but it's definitely worth it. Who knows? You might just surprise yourself and achieve things you never thought possible.
Remember, it's never too late to pursue your passions in life. So go after them with everything you've got! Who knows what you might achieve if you set your mind to it. A life of happinesscould be right around the corner.
