Vocal Media has grown A LOT since I started back in April 2020. From the social media groups that I've joined, I've noticed there's a lot of common questions with simple answers that is all going to be listed here. I just thought I would make it easier for everyone! If you are currently a creator on Vocal Media and you're reading this then you never know, you may find out something you didn't know.

1. How does Vocal Media work?

You simply sign up for free by creating an account and begin posting by creating "Create Story" in the top right corner of your screen.

When you make your first post, you'll be able to see your stats rise (hopefully fast). I believe the stats page is easy to read and self-explanatory so there's no need to go into detail.

2. How does Vocal Media pay?

On your stats page, you will be able to see how much you've earned per article. If you get 1000 reads you'll receive $3 and if you're a member of Vocal+ then you'll receive $6 per 1000 reads.

You can also get paid via;

- Tips from other writers.

-If you get picked as a Top Story, you will receive $5 from Vocal Media.

-If you win a challenge, you can win in-between $250 to $5000.

-New to Vocal Media are Creator Bonuses which are rewarded from Vocal Media. You can find more about these here.

Vocal Media pays via Stripe, there is no other option. You can find out more on how to get paid here.

3. What is the wallet?

Your wallet is the money you've earned per views and tips combined. You can see how much you've been tipped and on what article, but you cannot see who has tipped you.

You can find more about the wallet here.

4. Do I have to join Vocal +?

No, you don't but I do recommend it. Currently, it's only $4.99 a month. Benefits of Vocal+ include;

-Being paid $6 instead of $3 per 1000 reads.

-You can take part in all challenges.

-You can withdraw the minimum of $35 from your account.

5. What is a 'Community'?

A community is essentially just categories/genres of writing. For example; if you're writing about education then you should submit under the Education category. If you're writing about your pet then you should submit under Pet Life. You get my drift.

There are 34 different categories in total.

6. What is the 'Submitted' tab in Your Stories?

When you publish to a Community, your writing has to bypass the editors in Vocal Media to become approved. This is usually very quick and you're usually approved within a few hours or contacted to change something in your article.

Once you've submitted, your work will automatically move under this tab.

7. What are Top Stories?

You will receive an email shortly after your work has been approved letting you know that you're a Top Story and you will receive $5. Lucky you! There's no limit to how many time you can become a Top Story, just keep producing quality content.

There is no criteria on how to become a Top Story. If an editor likes your work, you're in for a treat.

8. What are Challenges?

Many people like Vocal Media due to the challenges because you can win a sweet chuck of money. Personally, this is not what inspired me to start writing but I have nonetheless won two challenges. Once you win a challenge, you earn bragging rights and it will state this at the top of your public profile.

Every week, there is a challenge for a first place price of $1000. Usually, there are bigger challenges that go on for longer where you can win up to an amazing $5000 for first place.

In challenges, there are always first, second and third place prizes. Vocal Media will announce a topic and scenario and your job as a creator is to create a piece of writing suitable for the challenge. When you go to submit, do not forget to 'Add to Challenge' at the end.

You will not be able to submit to all challenges unless you are a member of Vocal+.

9. How do you win a Challenge?

Well, this is the big question. Everyone wants to win but there can only be three winners. There is a criteria on how you can win which can be found here.

I've won two challenges, lucky me. How? I made sure they were unique and that someone else has not covered that area. For example, in the Dream House challenge everyone had written about real houses so I decided to write about a virtual house.

Don't be disheartened if you don't win, the chances are fairly slim. The competition is STRONG nowadays as Vocal Media is growing. I also don't doubt that winning must have a dash of luck in their somewhere.

10. How do you generate more views?

I advise you to promote your work on social media. I'm a member of two talkative Facebook groups (Vocal Media Creators Lounge and Vocal Media Creators Hub). Some people will create social media accounts just for their writing in order to connect to other writers and generate reads.

As you get paid per the thousand on Vocal Media, I also advise you send your work to your friends and family as every click and read generates you a pretty penny.

11. What is the love heart at the bottom of a page?

When you click on this heart, it's essentially letting other creators know that you 'like' their work. I always make an effort to do this and it's a just a kind gesture and encourages people to keep writing.

The only downside about this feature is that you cannot see who has liked your work, but you can see how many on your stats page.

12. How do I connect with other writers?

Hmm, you kind of can't. There is no way to message creators/comment on their work unless they have their social medias in their bio.

I would love to see Vocal Media enhance their site in order to do this in the future, I'm sure they're working on it.

13. Can I edit my work once it's been published?

No, you can't via the website. This seriously irritates me but there we have it. However, if you really want something edited then you can reach out to the editors with your request.

You can find out more about how to do that here.

So, there we have it. I'm sure you have a bunch of other questions you want to ask and you can reach out to me on Facebook under Shamar Rosie.

In general, Vocal Media is a pretty compact, user-friendly and simple website that doesn't really require you to work out that much. In other words, there's nothing you won't find an answer to.

Happy writing!
