One of the most important things to build a successful path in any area of life is self-confidence. However, it is one of the most difficult things to achieve as well. Things like our old friend self-doubt, impostor syndrome, or comments from people around us feeding into our own fear of failure, are just some of the daily obstacles we need to face on our way to success. Adding to that, most of us tend to feel more and more lost amongst all the tasks we need to complete as time goes by... Often it gets so overwhelming that we end up feeling stuck, as if our brain had to pull an emergency brake, and simply not doing things is the only way we can cope with it at a given moment.

Change is hard. However, as I usually say, there is no change without change. I know, I know, sounds like one of those random things people say to sound smart, but I just think it’s a funny way to remember that if we don’t change our dynamics, we won’t be able to get out of this cycle.

So, what should we be doing differently, you ask? Ok, maybe you didn’t ask, but in that case I just did it for you. Of course, the specifics will depend on each person’s particular situation, but I’d say that in general, everyone could be doing one of two things:

Start planning your life.

Start planning your life better.

Obviously, the first one is for those who (like me for many years), live by just going “with the flow”. Think about it this way, when something is very, very important to you (for some might be a final exam, for others a love declaration, for others buying a house or starting a business), do you even consider just going “with the flow”? Of course not. Surely some people are more spontaneous than others, but everyone gives important things a certain amount of thought and planning. Then whatever comes that wasn’t in the plan, they react to it as best as possible - always having their final goal in mind. So why should we do it with (what should be) the most important thing of all: our own lives? Answer is, we shouldn’t. Unfortunately, many of us weren’t taught to think this way, and so it took me years of self questioning to conclude this is the right thing to do. So if you haven’t yet, start planning. The beauty of it all is that it’s your life, it’s your plan, and you can do it in your own rhythm and adjust it as you go. At Audacity we live by this philosophy, and understand that different people need to plan in different ways and so we try to be as customisable as possible.

Planning is then the first step to get things done - whatever those things are. Of course, we have to plan realistically. We shouldn’t plan too small, otherwise we’ll keep getting small returns. However when trying to plan big it’s easy to lose sight of what’s achievable, because sometimes we can’t see things that clearly, that far. So like with everything else in life, planning is a matter of balance. And here is another thing Audacity’s versatility is perfect for: to help you plan better. Let me tell you how, by talking about just 2 of my favourite features in the app, which I think really apply to this blog’s theme.

Audacity has an exclusive feature that we call Time Buckets. With time Buckets you can divide your day into now, next, later and evening tasks. Even though this is great for most people, if need be you can add an extra one. For example, I like to have an extra bucket called lunch time for those little personal tasks... or just to remind me to actually relax during my break, ha! Right off the bat, this simple but innovative feature will give much more structure to your day, as well as allow you to immediately visualise how reasonable is the workload you’re planning for a certain amount of time. It allowed me to be more efficient, as I began being more intentional with the tasks I chose to tackle now as opposed to later, and it sort of trained me to get an intuitive idea of what’s possible and what not.

Audacity also created a ‘drag and drop’ feature, so if your priorities change unexpectedly, you can just drag a task and drop it in a different time bucket to rearrange your day! Easy-peasy. You can also ‘kick’ tasks to the next day, or even next week, with just a swipe to the left. These features combined with the customisable time buckets really changed my life. Me being one of those people who used to forget everything unless I’d written it on my hand - and even then, since I wash my hands about 100 times a day, it wouldn’t last much. With Audacity, instead of letting tasks be forgotten I can rearrange them every time I need to do so, which really helps me keep all important things in mind.

These are the features that made me surrender to Audacity and start seeing a difference in the way I plan my life (both professionally and personally), and consequently, the way things work out, almost right away. Audacity has so many other interesting and innovative features I use daily, but those will have to wait for another blog. If you’re one of the people on the initial stage of planning, I hope this reading is going to add value to your life by making you consider trying to start planning. And if you already do, I hope this can inspire you to start planning better. If you are going to do something... Do it well. Do it with Audacity.
