Top 5 Boredom-Busting Ideas

I know what you're thinking. A post about boredom? Why would I read that? After all, who wants to think about being bored when there's so much else going on in the world? But maybe it's precisely because you're busy that you need to read this article! If you're constantly on the go and always doing something, your mind can get caught up in a pattern and start feeling trapped. That's why it's important to step back once in a while and try new things—especially when those new things are easy enough for anyone to do (and free!).

Go for a hike.

Hiking is a great way to get in some exercise, enjoy the outdoors and spend time with your family. If you're looking for a way to pass the time when bored, hiking might be an activity worth considering. Depending on where you live, there are plenty of hiking trails near home. You could even go on a hike right in your own backyard if need be! Most people have access to some sort of trail or park where they can walk around without having to travel too far out of their comfort zone.

Hiking offers several benefits over other outdoor activities such as biking or swimming:

  • It doesn't require any special equipment other than shoes (and maybe sunscreen).
  • It's easy enough for anyone who has mobility issues but still challenging enough that people won't get bored doing it over and over again because there are many different types of trails available depending on how much elevation change they have (i.e., hills vs flat surfaces).

Call an old friend.

This is a great boredom-busting idea because it doesn't cost anything and it can help you to reconnect with someone you haven't spoken to in a long time. You might be surprised at how happy your friend will be to hear from you and what fun things they have been up to since last time! If they don't answer the phone, leave a message saying something like "I just wanted to say hi! Call me back if you want."

You could also try calling someone else who lives far away or even another country (if possible). This can be really exciting because there's no telling what kind of stories they might have for you!

Listen to music.

Music can be a great way of relieving boredom, especially if you're listening to something new. Try listening to a genre or artist you haven't heard before, or even just a song that's not one of your favorites. Listen with friends--it's always fun sharing new music with people! If you're alone, try putting on an album from start to finish in order. You never know what might happen!

-Try reading a book. You might not think of reading as a form of entertainment, but it can be just that! Try picking up a book you've been meaning to get around to or one that comes highly recommended by friends. If you're looking for something lighthearted, try funny books like Harry Potter or The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy; if you're in the mood for something more serious and thought-provoking, try Slaughterhouse Five or The Great Gatsby.

Watch a movie!

The next time you feel like boredom is about to take over, try watching a movie! Choose one that you'll really enjoy. You could watch it with friends, or even go to the theater if there's one nearby. If not, there are plenty of movies available online that can be viewed on your computer or phone--and many even have subtitles so they're easier to understand if English isn't your first language.

Exercise!

Exercise is a great way to relieve stress, help you sleep better and even improve your mood. It can also help with energy levels, diet and weight control. Plus, exercise is an excellent boredom buster!

Aerobic exercise is often the first thing people think of when they want to lose weight or get fit, but it’s not the only type of exercise that can help with weight loss. Even if you don’t have time to hit the gym every day, there are many ways you can incorporate physical activity into your everyday life. Just look how fun it is:
