To the Coast with Love
Family Adventures

I want to believe that I have fully recovered from my short holiday. I am just a bit sad that it had to end. A few days ago I briefly touched on my holiday and shared about meeting my former classmates in Mombasa county. However, I started that story from the end.
Well let's go back to the start. I used the SGR for the first time ever and it was also my maiden train ride in Kenya. The experience is a whole other story for another day. I was at the coast for many other reasons. I went to visit my little brother who is a doctor at Msambweni Hospital in Kwale county and we had my cousin's ruracio in Kilifi county. Now for those who know the area, the two counties sandwich Mombasa county. So that means we had to traverse three counties in one day including crossing the ferry on a very busy Saturday morning. A journey that should last about 3 hours or so on road and ferry took us 6 hours to get to our destination.
During the journey, we slept, woke up, sung along to songs playing on the radio, contributed among ourselves on topics being discussed on the radio, took videos, got cranky coz of the heat and the delays over several phone calls from our family members wondering when we will ever get to the function. Yes we were extremely late for the function but we finally made it and took pics. The plan was to go to Kilifi and back but who is God??? We spent the night at Watamu with no change of clothes and no accommodation plans but that turned out to be one of my best nights ever post raving days. We even got a nice empty villa called the Blue House Watamu for the night. It was affordable and because we did not want any temptations of jumping into the pool without costumes, we got one without a swimming pool.
The next morning, we went to the closest beach in Watamu and just took a walk with my siblings, soaked in the coastal sun, enjoyed the water and sand on our feet, my sister and I got piko designs drawn on our legs and and we took photos to capture the memories. We slowly drove back to Kwale county making stop overs at various spots, met familiar faces and had one amazing seafood experience for lunch. Again, my first ever. Maybe I need to try it again to give you a better review of it. We were later hosted for dinner by one of our reverends at Mamlaka Hill Chapel who recently moved to Diani to start a church plant and our day ended at around 11 pm back to Kwale county. This time the trip back seemed shorter.
So before I write an entire chapter, I have pics to share on my next post. The video below was me trying to force smiles on all of us during our long road trip to Kilifi from Kwale. Hence the fake smile. We had been stuck at the Likoni ferry for hours. To my siblings, have I told you lately how much I appreciate you all? Next time, we are going to Lamu and it's all going to be on me...by faith, inshallah! So this is the short version of my long story. If you want to get the longer version come see me in person.
