Three Tips To Keep You Working Your 9-5...For Now!

Persevering through a job you don't like, but working to create your ultimate lifestyle!

By Aura BinahPublished 6 years ago 2 min read

So I’ve been in a not so good space when it comes to my job and have been trying to really figure out the best way for me to navigate the space while I’m still working there. Forreal forreal, I have been spoke over my life that this would be my transitional job until I am a full time freelancer/entrepreneur because that is my ultimate goal. However, I can honestly say I wasn’t sure how to go about it. Or really what my purpose is.

Awhile back I had an epiphany that I should be writing and blogging again. My passion never changed I just was trying to be like other people (I’ll express this in a different post). I have been writing forever and now that I have realized my true goal and purpose I’m starting to taking affirmative action. I’m not going to dive to deep into why my 9-5 has bothered me so but just know I will not tolerate any disrespect towards myself or my people.

With that being said, How do I still do what I have to do while also putting myself first?

1. Don’t Match Energy

I work at a call center and I remember working my first call center job thinking it would be a lot better since the customer service would be over the phone. I wasn’t necessarily wrong, but people are just as rude, if not even more rude because they grow balls all of a sudden when they’re on the phone. I get defensive very quickly and it tells in my tone so I definitely am used to matching energy when they’re quick at the lip with me. However, I know I’m doing myself a disservice. Not only am I draining myself of my energy, I am also taking something personal that I shouldn’t. I have to be empathetic truly and put myself in their shoes. I don’t know these people, just have to treat them with respect even if they are rude to me sometimes. Someone has to be the bigger person.

2. Take Their Coins

Savage shit. If they’re offering overtime, consider taking it. Especially if you are looking for a new job or just preparing to transition to full time freelancer you can use the overtime to put towards savings. Might as well take the money while you can. Feel me?

3. Be Patient While You Find Your Out

The journey out of a 9-5 can definitely feel long as shit. That’s just the reality. I’ve impulsively quit jobs before having another lined up but that has only really come back to bite me in the ass. So don’t be like Aura lol keep your job and be patient until you find a new one. Shout out to my mom forreal for this advice.

I create and control my experience. I know what I truly desire will manifest in divine time but I truly have to be patient and disciplined until it happens. It takes great faith and courage to keep going and working for a place you truly dislike but it’s all good. The way I see it this is temporary. I’m going to do what I have to do to put myself in the ultimate position.
