Introducing Clubhouse

Why I love Clubhouse

Clubhouse is a new audio-based, invite-only social networking app. Clubhouse has virtual rooms where people gather to discuss a variety of topics.

When you enter a room, you’ll most likely just listen to the conversation, in fact, that is the best thing to do until you get a feel for how things work.

If you have a question or input, the room moderators, who have a green bean or dot by their names, can invite you to talk. While Clubhouse is still in beta, there are over 10 million active users from around the world. In May 2021, Android users were invited to the platform.

I was first introduced to Clubhouse in March of this year by Podcast Magazine CEO Steve Olsher. I had no idea what it was, but he was so enthusiastic about it, that I thought I'd better give it a try.

OMG, am I glad I did.

I absolutely fell in love with the platform.

Social media is supposed to be social, but for me and many others it was just a one-way monologue of endless posting. Clubhouse has completley flipped the script.

Just like with other social media sites, Clubhouse can be used to expand your reach, build relationships, and grow a loyal following that wants to take your advice. It gives you the opportunity to showcase your knowledge and to raise your level of expertise and increase your authority and influence.

However, unlike other social media sites, Clubhouse allows you to make more personal, deeper connections because you are speaking with people directly rather than just posting content for others to read.

Clubhouse has masterfully brought voice to center stage. Audio is very personal. You are allowing someone to speak directly into your ear. Audio-only single-handedly allows our minds to create the video with our imagination.

In order for relationships to flourish in business, an emotional connection must be formed. Sound and voice go straight to one’s heart and inextricably deepens the bond and personal connection between the listeners.

I've gotten the chance to interview over 40 entrepreneurs on Clubhouse and these are real relationships. Prior to Clubhouse, I never really knew the people I was following on social media. This personal connection with people who live all over the world is something that is sorely missing in our society.

Italian journalist Italo Calvino had it right when he said, “It is not the voice that commands the story; it is the ear.”

Why I love Public Relations

Ever since I was a kid, I loved to write and make up stories. I get this from my mother who was a songwriter. Although she never got a chance to pursue her passion because she married young and had children, her love for words was transmitted to me.

Whenever I would go to the store with my parents, my brothers would run to the toy aisle for the lastest gadget. I however, would run to the stationery aisle to get more pens, pencils and pads of paper.

I could spend all day in my room with my stuffed animals and just make up stories for our adventure.

After high school, I got a chance to attend the only college I ever wanted to attend, USC. I was overjoyed to be in the School of Journalism, but my joy was short-lived.

My mother was diagnosed with cancer and had to stop working. That meant that I had to start working full-time in order to support both of us.

Throughout all my working years, I never stopped writing. I eventually was promoted to Writer/Editor at my job and later to Communications Specialist.

In 2018, because of my work in Public Relations, I got a chance to meet my online mentor, Oprah Winfrey. That was a dream come true because I remember running home every day after school to watch her talk show.

Being able to help people shine a light on their products and services is what I love to do.

Now that Clubhouse is here, I am able to take the stage and not only talk about what I love, but also interview others to help them build a bigger following.

In a perfect world, I would love to be able to combine the two in a way that could be monetized. I would love to create a membership in which PR Professionals could learn more about the benefits of Clubhouse for their clients.
