Scorpio dates : October 24 to November 22

Element : Water

Birthstones : October ~ Opal , November ~ Topaz

Colours : In reflection of Scorpio's mysterious nature the colours chosen are typically dark and intense shades , such as , burgundy and maroon. Another colour is black aligning with their strength and connection with the unknown and taboo.

festivals : Samhain ~ Samhain is an incredible time of year that marks the end of the harvest season as we pass over into winter. its believed that the 31st of October into the 1st of November is when the veil between the living and the dead is very thin , allowing the dead to visit us. Many will leave a plate of food at their table for their passed loved ones to come and feast with them again.

Crafting : this is the perfect time of year for creating a journal or book of shadows , reflecting on the year you've had , what you've learnt , what you've done , what you may be wanting to do in the future as its now time to hunker down for winter and start to plan for your year ahead.

Another craft to try at this time of year is mini broom making , simply go our in the woods or garden and collect twigs and foliage to make your broom. fasten foliage to the end of a twig with twine or ribbon , you can get really creative with this by adding colourful ties , carving or painting the handle (twig) some people even screw holes through the handle to attach charms to their new little brooms. These are great for any altar , sweeping away negative energy , ashes and dust and is also just a great decorative piece too !

Spells : Samhain blessing spell ~

To bless past , present and future during Samhain, tie with red ribbon a black , white and red candle , light them and say ~

" As the past drifts away going into a fade , i hold with me the fond memories that I've made i enjoy the present for where i stayed it is nothing i would ever trade i embrace the future for which I've prayed and welcomed abundance for yet another decade. "

Remove the ribbon and allow the candles to burn down. ( please do not leave candles unattended as that is a fire hazard , if you are short for time use smaller spell candles , stay safe )

Altar : dressing an altar at this time of year can be difficult as most plants are dying back but there is still plenty that you can use. There is still evergreen foliage that you can collect from trees like pine , fir , cedar , holly and ivy but i also think that collecting bare branches and twigs is a great way to represent the changes we make going forward into the new year , also things like acorns , pine cones and seed heads make great dressing items for your winter season altar. Although we talked about the colours for Scorpio's , the colours for a winter altar are completely different , you should aim to dress you altar in winter colours such as blue , silver and white.

Food : This is the season for root vegetables , roasted meats , dark chocolates and warming spices such as ginger , cinnamon and black pepper. Hearty comfort foods such as soups and baked potatoes with cheese are also great options for this time of year.
