Tamil is a Dravidian language spoken primarily in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and in Sri Lanka, as well as by Tamil diaspora communities around the world. It is one of the 22 scheduled languages of India, and is the official language of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Tamil is also a recognized classical language, with a rich literary tradition that dates back to the 3rd century BCE. It is the oldest living language in the Dravidian language family, and is one of the longest-surviving classical languages in the world. Tamil is known for its complex phonetic and grammatical structure, as well as its use of poetic meter and figure of speech.Tamil Nadu is well-known for its rich sculptural heritage, which spans several centuries and has played a central role in the cultural and religious traditions of the region.
Tamil sculpture can be broadly divided into two main periods: the early Chola period (9th - 10th centuries CE), and the later Chola period (11th - 13th centuries CE).

The early Chola sculptures are known for their naturalism, with a focus on the human form. The sculptures from this period typically depict scenes from Hindu religious texts and legends, and are characterized by their detailed and realistic portrayal of the human body and expressive gestures.
The later Chola period saw a shift towards a more ornate and stylized form of sculpture, with a greater emphasis on decorative elements such as intricate carvings and embellishments. The sculptures from this period are typically larger in scale and more elaborate than those from the earlier period, and often depict deities and mythological figures in a highly stylized and iconic form.
Both the early and later Chola sculptures are notable for their skillful craftsmanship and attention to detail, which continues to be admired to this day. They can be found in various temple and other religious buildings, scattered through out the state.

Other than Chola sculptures, Pallava sculptures are also famous for their elaborate and intricate carvings. Most of the Pallava sculptures can be found in Mahabalipuram, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Tamilians have perfected the art of spinning, weaving and chiseling over the years and their brilliance is reflected in different art subjects like bronzes, sculptor works, carvings, etc. Magnificent temples represent Tamil architecture with lofty 'gopurams' and statues of goddesses engraved all over the edifice. https://www.dgme.us/
