Aarti Timings at Somnath Temple: Connecting with the Divine Throughout the Day

Somnath Temple Aarti Timings

As the sun rises over the sacred shores of Somnath, the divine vibrations of ancient mantras begin to fill the air.

Having served at this sacred Jyotirlinga for over two decades, I have witnessed countless souls transform through participation in our daily aarti ceremonies.

The cosmic dance of time at Somnath Temple follows a rhythm set by Lord Shiva himself, marking each segment of the day with divine significance.

The Sacred Morning Hours

The day at Somnath begins well before dawn with the Mangla Aarti at 5:30 AM. This is when the cosmic energies are most subtle, and the veil between the divine and material realms is thinnest.

As mentioned in the Shiva Purana, these early morning hours (Brahma Muhurta) hold special significance for spiritual practices. The Mangla Aarti serves as the first offering to Bhagwan Somnath, awakening the divine consciousness within the temple.

Following this, the Pratar Aarti commences at 7:00 AM. This aarti coincides with the rising sun, symbolizing the awakening of our inner consciousness. The temple resonates with the divine sounds of shankhnaad and mantra-ucchaaran during this time.

Midday Devotional Offerings

The Shangar Aarti at 8:30 AM marks the preparation of Bholenath for receiving devotees throughout the day. During this time, we adorn the Lord with fresh flowers and perform the ritual abhishek with sacred ingredients.

As the sun reaches its zenith, we perform the Rajbhog Aarti at 12:00 PM. This coincides with what our shastras describe as the most auspicious time for offering bhog to the deity. The temple air becomes thick with the fragrance of incense and flowers during this sacred ceremony.

Evening Worship

The divine sequence continues with the Sandhya Aarti at 7:00 PM. This twilight hour holds profound spiritual significance, as mentioned in our ancient texts. It is when the energies of day and night merge, creating a powerful spiritual atmosphere.

The Final Sacred Offerings

Our day culminates with two significant aartis. The Shayan Aarti takes place at 9:30 PM, preparing the Lord for divine rest. During this time, we recite special mantras and stotras that carry deep spiritual vibrations through the temple complex.

Special Darshan and Guidelines

For those seeking the Lord's blessings, the temple remains open from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The most potent time for darshan is during the Mangla Aarti, when the spiritual atmosphere is charged with divine energy.

I always advise devotees to arrive at least 30 minutes before any aarti to fully absorb the sacred vibrations.

During the special occasions of Shravan Mas and Mahashivratri, these timings might be extended to accommodate the larger crowds of devotees. On such days, we commence the Mangla Aarti even earlier, at 4:00 AM.

One must remember that these aartis are not mere rituals but powerful spiritual practices that connect us with the divine consciousness of Mahadev. As stated in the Skanda Purana, participating in the aarti of a Jyotirlinga with complete devotion can dissolve karmic bonds accumulated over lifetimes.

I encourage all devotees to maintain silence during the aartis and focus their attention on the divine presence.

The sacred mantras and prayers during these times create a bridge between the finite and the infinite, allowing us to experience a glimpse of the eternal consciousness that Lord Shiva represents.

Remember, dear devotees, these timings are not just schedules but divine appointments with the Lord of Lords. Come with an open heart, and you shall receive the abundant grace of Bholenath.
