Facts about snakes

By Arfan RaihenPublished 9 months ago 5 min read

Snakes dance in movies when you play the flute. In reality, they don't. Snakes don't have ears. They have to stick out their tongues frequently to hear.

Snakes won't attack you. If you walk with noise, they can understand. The color of the shell under the snake's chest is different. There are special nerve fibers there. They can sense the vibrations of the ground. They can understand how far you are, how big you are. They run away.

Snakes never come to the smell of Belly and Hasnahena. Some people may have seen snakes under Belly and Hasnahena in their lifetime. Remember, snakes have a very weak sense of smell. They can't smell.

Insects are more attracted to fragrant flowers. Frogs come to eat insects. Snakes may sometimes come to eat frogs. Snakes, like humans, get tired after eating. Just as humans sleep comfortably after eating, snakes can also sleep under Belly and Hasnahena.

However, if these trees are inside the house, snakes come less often. Because they are afraid of human presence. However, if there are such trees on the side of the house, in the bushes, it is normal for snakes to come.

If you kill a snake, its partner will never come to find you and bite you. Snakes have a very weak memory. Snakes are not the king of Bengali cinema Shakib Khan or Nagin Moonmoon who will rush to take revenge for the loss of their partner.

Snakes are low-breed animals. There is no such thing as revenge among them. But after killing a snake, another snake is often seen in the same place, why?

Simple. During mating, their partner may be nearby or if there is a hole nearby, its young or more snakes may come out. It did not come to take revenge but came out of the hole by mistake.

It is wrong to say that small snakes do not have venom. Snake babies are also snakes. A patient had to fight for his life for 24 hours straight in front of my eyes after being bitten by a small snake the size of an earthworm. We three doctors fought beside him in the ICU for 24 hours.

Starting with artificial ventilation, we gave him anti-venom several times. He recovered and went home. Before leaving, he abused us. We allegedly gave him very expensive medicine. He doesn't know that a single dose of antivenom costs 10,000 taka. Logically, the man is not at fault. He was a fisherman.
His income is maybe 150 taka a day. Snakes bite more people who return home from the market in the dark at night and fishermen. Fishermen catch fish by throwing spears and nets at night during the monsoon. They catch them in the middle of rivers or canals. The snakes think they are dry and stay there. They bite.

Movies say that snakes drink milk. They attack barns to drink cow's milk. Wrong. These snakes eat frogs and insects in the fields. I see black colored snakes, they benefit us. They save crops. It is better not to kill them.

If you cut a snake with a blade, the venom comes out. This is wrong. Do not do this even by mistake. If you cut it with a blade, you mix the venom with the blood.

If you bite a bitten snake, the venom goes back inside the snake. This is wrong. If you cut it on the leg, the venom is there. There is no venom in your teeth. How can you give it back? A snake's venom is not in its teeth. When it bites, the muscles in its mouth tense up. The venom is near the teeth. From there, the venom enters your body through the teeth.

Forget the idea that if you tie it tightly, it cannot spread venom. If you are not sure whether the snake was poisonous or not, then why tie it tightly? Many doctors also forbid tying it after a snakebite. Because it is counterproductive.

You can wrap a towel or shirt or saree over the bite, just like you would wrap a football anklet around your leg. The bandage must be loose. Loosen it so that two fingers can fit through it. Again, do not tie it too loosely. You can take it off and put it back on after 20 minutes.

Do not tie it with iron wire, twine, electric wire or other thin objects. If you tie it, the blood flow will stop and your hands and feet will start to rot. There is a high chance of losing your hand or foot forever. Maybe you were not bitten by a poisonous snake, but you twisted your hands and feet in fear and became paralyzed. What will happen?

If you are bitten by a snake, you will take off your rings, bangles, bracelets. Some snake venoms can cause swelling of your fingers, hands or feet. Wearing rings or bangles can cut off blood flow and cause decomposition.

When does a snake bite?

1. If it accidentally encounters you, it tries to run away. But if it is scared, it becomes violent. All animals are like that. Chickens sometimes peck people. If a snake comes in front of you, let it go.

2. The rainy season means snakebite patients in the hospital. During the rainy season, water rises in the hole. As a result, the snake comes out on the bank, in dry places. It can be in the field aisle, on the road or under the mattress of your house, under the pillow, inside the rack, or in a pile of wood anywhere.

3. If you step on a snake's body in the dark. If you accidentally step on its body in the forest, it bites.

4. If there is a snake in a rat hole, it can bite if you step there or sit there. Sometimes, children sit and urinate at the mouth of the hole. Teach your child. Don't do this.

Are all snakes poisonous? There are 80 types of snakes in Bangladesh. Only 27 are poisonous. Most are marine. Only 5/6 species are on land that are poisonous. The ones you see moving around regularly in front of your eyes are not poisonous. Most of the water snakes are not poisonous. However, all sea snakes are poisonous. If you know them, then I would say that Gok ara, Ute, Shank HC hurrah, Chandra bondages are poisonous.

How do you know if you have been bitten by a snake? If you think you have been bitten and then look directly at the snake, you may think that it has bitten you.
