Rock 2025 Like a Pro: Show Up and Go the Extra Mile
A Combo of Consistency + Commitment

Ever thought about what makes someone really stand out in their field?
Apparently, there’s a tried-and-true combo for success: showing up consistently + going the extra mile.
Not convinced? Look around us for those who excel.
Still not convinced? Read on. 😉
.
Earlier, I shared my thoughts on Rockstars (a.k.a. people who excel in their field) and how going the extra mile is part of their package to succeed.
Then, I stumbled upon this awesome article by JA Westernberg called “Just Show Up.”
She summed it up beautifully with a quote:
“Showing up. Showing up with your whole self, showing up with your values and beliefs, showing up with what makes you unique, but above all — showing up with consistency.”
I couldn’t agree more!
Showing up wholeheartedly and doing it consistently is the secret sauce for meaningful work and real networks.
When we show up every day, we let growth happen naturally.
And the coolest part? We control it.
Now, how empowering is that?

Showing Up vs. Going the Extra Mile: What’s the Difference?
Well, while both are key to greatness, they play different roles.
Showing up means we are present, willing to participate, and take action. When done wholeheartedly, it lays the foundation for who we are and what we stand for.
Going the extra mile builds on that foundation. We input additional efforts to go above and beyond expectations. And it often results in turning heads, achieving our KPIs and opening more doors.

Showing Up and Going the Extra Mile for Sales Rockstars
Alright, say we want to be Sales Rockstars in 2025.
What does showing up and going the extra mile look like?
Here are some ideas. Feel free to add on!
Showing Up
- Be There: Attend meetings, sales calls, and training sessions—even on off days or mood-off days.
This shows our consistency.
- Daily Hustle: Reach out to X new potential clients every day.
This builds determination and makes us unstoppable.
- Always Learning: Set aside Y minutes daily to study sales techniques or books to upgrade our skills.
This leads to growth.
.
Going the Extra Mile
- Do Homework: Research prospects before meetings to understand their background, so that we have better insight and able to tailor our pitch to meet their needs. And wow them.
Tips: Google and LinkedIn are our BFFs for prospect insights.
- Be Extra Early: This shows respect and readiness.
Tips: In Malaysia? Get at least a SmartTag to beat Touch n Go queue.
- Follow Up Like a Pro: After meetings, send thank-you emails summarizing key points and next steps. Then, follow up skillfully and respectfully.
- Add Value: Share industry insights or inputs that could help the client.
Tips: Verify facts first; do it right and wisely.
Like us, clients want to look good in front of their bosses too.
- Be Responsive but With Boundaries: Handle urgent client calls or questions after hours but set clear expectations for less critical issues.
Even Rockstars need work-life balance!
- Celebrate Relationships: Mark milestones with congratulatory notes. Send birthday and festive wishes to show you genuinely care.
Tips: Don’t forget their personal assistants or secretaries.
They are the gatekeepers and real MVPs.
- Practice Makes Perfect: Want to ace presentations? Always prepare and practice, like Steve Jobs did.
- Build Our Arsenal: I’m not talking about the Gunners who go Top 3 on New Year’s Day, but us creating an arsenal of scripts for objections, closing, negotiation and more.
Tips: Keep them systematic and simple, though.
Too much information overload gives us a headache.
Too little information often makes us assistants instead of authorities.
- Network Smartly: Build connections, especially with decision-makers.
Tips: Use LinkedIn to invite to connect.
Festive wishes with a warm intro work wonders.
- Leverage Tech: Use tools (like AI!) to research and craft solutions that wow your clients and makes us more knowledgeable.

The Rockstar Edge: Consistency + Commitment
Ever watched The Auditors on Netflix?
They are pros at showing up and going the extra mile to crack cases and get the job super well done.
With the same diligence, we too can excel and become rockstars in sales or any other field. (Of course, without endangering ourselves or compromising our integrity!)
So, show up wholeheartedly and always go that extra mile.
InsyaAllah, with this proven combo, success is ours.
Happy 2025! 😎
