Then at a social event someone brought up the fact that he had hit a wall at $400,00 that which was a turning point for me. I left the event, called my dad, and said I was out of that 9 to 5 for good. I got it that this money game is not what I thought it was; it’s not about out thinking the other guy or putting in more hours, but about playing the game well. Many of the rich people I know aren’t really “intelligent” per se; they just got that which which made them successful. 1. Saving Money May Not Make You Rich, But It Will Set You Free.

When I began my company I was excited at the prospect of making money, but also broke and out of savings. My first goal was to pay off that debt. Also I put together an “Oh Crap” Fund which is a emergency buffer for living expenses should things go south.

Once I had my basics in place I took calculated risks. I put out $60k for a new venture and $40k into developing a software platform. You don’t have to save to become a billionaire but saving does give you the freedom to take smart risks which in turn may lead to greater wealth.

2. Success is a marathon not a sprint.

When you jump into something new you overestimate what you can do, then you realize the true scale of the task at hand. But if you stick with it you will develop the skills which will lead to success.

After I struggled for a year everything clicked. I went from breaking even at $0 to $7 million in sales within 6 months. That experience gave me skills which are second nature to me, no one can take that away from me.

3. Value Follows Excellence; Focus on Value not Profit .

I set out to become a recognized expert in my field which is what I did. I entered a fitness competition to prove my point and it paid off.

People pay attention when you go for excellence. Don’t chase after money, chase value, and the money will follow.

4. Master Active income before passive income.

I once thought real estate was a sure fire way to achieve passive income. What I found out instead is that property management is more of a full time job which is far from easy money.

Business skills and investment knowhow are what you develop. First master active income (running a business) before you touch passive income (investing).

5. Money won’t do it for you; purpose will.

6. Start Here; There is no job too low for you.

Poverty keeps people in a cycle which they step out of only when they take what may be considered low status jobs with shame. I used to do the role of a hiking guide for some extra income, which in turn opened up other chances. Seize each and every opportunity to work hard as they present new doors.

7. Stop the comparison to others.

Watching another’s success will not fuel your own, also watching as someone lifts weights will not make you stronger. Put focus on your own growth.

8. Change Your Behavior, Not Just Your Attitude.

I used to believe that my financial issues were a result of a “poor mindset”. But what I didn’t realize was that I was also very much at ease with inaction. Instead of just dreaming of wealth I put in the work to achieve it.

9. Solve Large Issues for Great Profits.

Elon Musk created his fortune by taking on huge challenges in energy, space travel, AI. The bigger the issue the greater the reward.
