Hi. My name is Lisa Heath and I started my own online Etsy shop almost 3 months ago. I wish I could say business is booming and that everybody loves my stuff. Despite keeping my prices low, following all tips and tricks people teach me, and people finding my stuff cute, I'm not really selling anything.
People have told me that starting your own business is hard, that it takes a long time to get established. I am ok with that. Really. I am constantly on Facebook, friending people, posting about my shop and my life, and commenting, but to no avail. I have a Facebook page and group, where you get special perks. I have Weekly games and a monthly giveaway. I am doing all the tips people tell me but i still only made 200 dollars this month. That may sound like a decent amount of money but it barely covers the cost of new supplies.
I have also tried doing actual craft fairs. But I wasn't set up for them properly. I got business cards afterwards because they didn't come fast enough in the mail. The 2 fairs I went to, I barely made more than the entrance fee. I was advertising on social media and posting pictures. The first one was outside. It was very cold and windy. They allowed people to park their cars in the spaces they were selling things and they put me in the back row. I literally had a row of cars in front of me. I made $1 more than the entry fee in 5 hours. The second one was inside, in a bigger city, but it was in a place with very little thru traffic and very poor advertising. I made more there, but not much. I am currently doing an online cratf fair, but the are a few things wrong with it. Online craft fairs are a new concept and are only around due to Covid-19. People dont really know what to expect from them and you cant actually see or touch the product. We are allowed to post in the Facebook group that is the craft fair up to 4x a day. But if you choose to do a live, it counts as one of your posts. I post on my story, feed, pages and group about the craft fair but I only made one sale because someone used my black Friday coupon.
I am at the point where winter is coming and I need to have an income. The people I live with have been supporting me for 3 months while I start this adventure, but can no longer do so. This series is kinda like a last effort to spread awareness. I am going to be documenting everyday, mostly just talking about what I do that day and how I'm feeling. I might post sad things in here from time to time, but this is going to be my place to truly be myself. I am going to still be working on getting my shop going, but I am also looking for a job to cover my bills. Hoping today goes better and I will post on that in the morning. I hope that you will join me on my adventure while I fight to make my dream a reality. I am thankful for all the love and support I have received so far. I can't wait to make everybody proud. This is gonna be good!
In the real world I have a saying when I sign off from my lives and my tiktok videos. I remind people to spread love and kindness throughout their day. There is already so much hate in the world. We could always use more love. So as you join me I hope you remember to spread kindness and to live your life with love!
