My Verdict: Is Airalo Worth It?

At first, I would have said yes, kind of. But based on my latest experience, my answer is now a soft no.

While Airalo is offer good convenient and affordable, for their customer service and unreliable network issues have made me hesitant to recommend them. The Airalo service works well in some countries but fails in many others — and when it fails, the support is frustratingly slow.

My Honest Personal Experience with Airalo

✅ In Qatar – Worked Like a Dream

When I first tested Airalo on a 3-day stopover in Qatar. I bought and installed the eSIM for few days in advance, activated it as soon as I landed, and it worked instantly. The process was so good and seamless — I was online within a single minutes, without any SIM swapping or paperwork.

❌ In South Africa – A Total Letdown

Next, when I used Airalo eSim for a 3-months trip to travel South Africa. It worked fine for the first 45 days. But after topping up, it stopped working properly — despite showing full bars and 5G, nothing would load.

  • Worse, there customer service was a nightmare.
  • Delayed responses
  • Confusing troubleshooting steps
  • No helpful solution after multiple attempts
  • Eventually, I gave up and bought a physical SIM card from south africa local sim service provider, which cost me less and worked better.
