Involve God in Decisions
Life is filled with choices and decisions, some small and others life-changing. As believers, we are called to seek God's guidance in every step we take. Involving God in our decisions not only aligns our path with His will but also grants us peace and wisdom. Here are some biblical insights on why and how to include God in our decision-making process.
1. Seek God's Wisdom
The Bible encourages us to seek God's wisdom rather than relying on our own understanding. In Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV), it says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." This verse emphasizes the importance of trusting God completely, acknowledging that His wisdom far surpasses ours.
James 1:5 (NIV) also tells us, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." This assurance reminds us that God is willing to grant wisdom to those who earnestly seek it.
2. Pray for Guidance
Prayer is a vital way to involve God in our decisions. Philippians 4:6 (NIV) reminds us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Bringing our decisions before God through prayer shows our dependence on His guidance.
Jesus Himself set an example of prayerful decision-making. Before choosing His disciples, He spent the entire night in prayer (Luke 6:12-13). This demonstrates the importance of dedicating time to seek God's will, especially when making significant choices.
3. Seek Godly Counsel
God often guides us through the counsel of wise and godly people. Proverbs 15:22 (NIV) states, "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed." Seeking advice from spiritually mature individuals helps us gain perspective and discern God’s direction.
Proverbs 11:14 (NIV) also emphasizes, "For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers." Surrounding ourselves with people who walk closely with God can significantly influence the quality of our decisions.
4. Be Patient and Listen
Sometimes, God’s guidance requires patience. Psalm 27:14 (NIV) encourages us to "Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord." Listening and waiting for God's answer is essential, as His timing is perfect.
Isaiah 40:31 (NIV) adds, "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Patience in decision-making often leads to renewed strength and clarity.
5. Follow the Peace of God
Colossians 3:15 (NIV) advises, "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts." When we are uncertain about a decision, seeking the peace that comes from God can confirm whether we are moving in the right direction.
Philippians 4:7 (NIV) also promises, "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." When God’s peace accompanies a decision, it serves as a reassurance of His presence and guidance.
Conclusion
Including God in our decisions is not just a spiritual discipline but a demonstration of our trust in His perfect plan. Whether through prayer, seeking counsel, or waiting patiently, allowing God to lead ensures that we walk in wisdom and peace. Let us commit to involving God in every decision, big or small, trusting that He will guide us faithfully. In doing so, we align our lives with His purpose and experience the fulfillment of His promises.
