In the Life of a Vet Tech in Training 👩🏼‍⚕️
Becoming a Nurse for Animals ❤️

Yes this is a personal story, but I want it to be more than that. I want it to show people no matter the obstacles you go through in life, if you work hard enough you can succeed in so many ways. You will hit speed bumps along the way, you may even want to quit, but if you put your mind to it, any goal will come with time, patience, strength, and confidence. So here is my dream career. Here are the bumps along the way I am ready to face them all head on.
Five years ago I never would have thought I would be where I am now. Five years ago I was fresh out of high school and I had just started working at a desk job—insurance company. I excelled quickly within that company and figured that was where I would be for a long time. Four and a half years into the job, I was beginning to be very unhappy, stressed constantly, and I just kept thinking to myself: I need out.
I started doing a lot of thinking at this point. I had different scenarios of how I could become happier, change my career, but nothing seemed to work. A couple months after being unhappy, I finally realized that there was one thing I felt like I would never have thought of as quickly as I did and that is to look into becoming a vet technician. The thought of being a vet tech helped me remember that I was raised around so many animals, and they made me so happy.
At this point, I had so much research in front of me that I thought of different plans. With this research and planning, everything else started to just fall into place. I found the schooling program I needed to be in at a local college, and I figured out it would be completed in a short amount of time. Once that happened, I looked into different clinics in my area to be an intern at, and I found the clinic of my dreams, and they were more than welcoming to me as an intern.
On top of my full-time job at the insurance company, I started my internship of two days a week in November 2017. I also started taking my first class in January 2018. Once I figured out some requirements, I needed to get licensed after I finished classes. I needed to figure out how to meet these requirements as soon as possible. I got so beyond lucky and, in March 2017, the clinic I was interning at offered me a full-time job, which I accepted, of course!
April 30, 2018, I started working full time at the best vet clinic I possibly could be at that is so close to home. Now it is almost four months later, and I have learned so much, I have begun to excel so much, and I fall in love with it more every day. To me, this is the best decision I could have made in my life and I wouldn’t change any of it for the world.
It took me five years to figure out what I really wanted to do in life, and it doesn’t happen often that people find their true passion as quickly as I do, or if they find it at all.
In life, there will be roadblocks, we will feel like we are failing, we will want to quit, but we need to stay strong because we will be so much more happy.
Until next time,
Cheers,
Shyanne
