I missed the maiden voyage
My brother didn't
No one sets sail expecting to wreck their ship. The Edmund Fitzgerald like the Titanic sunk. They both sunk for different reasons. The Edmund had rough seas and hurricane winds.
The Titanic was deemed unsinkable by those who built it and the captain. No ship is unsinkable as the Titanic proved. I think part of what brought the Titanic down was the arrogance of the owners and captain.
Does anyone know where the love of God goes when the waves turns the minutes to hours. Passengers on the Titanic who were traveling first class were forty-four percent more likely to survive the sinking of the Titanic. The Titanic is how Molly Brown got her nickname, the unsinkable Molly Brown. Also on board were some dignitaries such as Benjamin Guggenheim, accompanied by his mistress, valet and chauffeur; and widow and heiress Margaret “Molly” Brown, who would earn her nickname “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” by helping to maintain calm and order while the lifeboats were being loaded and boosting the spirits of her fellow survivors. Molly Brown helped load the boats and finally was forced into one of the last to leave. She implored its crewmen to turn back for survivors, but they refused, fearing they would be swamped by desperate people trying to escape the icy seas. There were people in the icy seas that was looking for an escape, some way to survive because they knew their chances of survival was very slim in those waters.
The problem with the life boats is there weren't enough for all the passengers on board. The passengers in last class weren't even considered as people. They all perished along with the children.
I was holding a ticket on this ill fated ship for it's maiden voyage to the United States. I was excited like all of the others. I was getting ready to tell my wife and children good bye and I would send for them after I arrived in the States. The day at work started off normally and I was working on a clients books trying to get everything to balance. My company was transferring me to New York and would move my family.
We were called into a staff meeting later that day. My boss said to me my trip was being delayed because a major client of mine was just advised they were under audit and I had to go to Dublin for three months with my audit team. I was told my transfer would take place after I returned from Dublin. Given that I am an equivalent to an American Certified Public Accountant I had to be there.
When I arrived home I told my wife the disappointing news. She was upset but at least understanding. I made sure I packed my London Fog coat because it is still quite cool in Dublin this time of year. I also made sure to take my umbrella as the weather is also quite wet this time of the year.
My staff and I were booked in a three star motel with decent amenities. It was within walking distance to our clients office. We had been here before so we knew how to get there.
The next day every newspaper was reporting the devastating news about the sinking of the Titanic. It is estimated that between 1,503 and 1,517 people perished on the Titanic. I know my brother and his son aged ten perished on the ship. He was going to set up housing for his wife and four other boys.
The president of my company perished as well and I was glad to be out of the office for that political blood bath.
I do feel badly about the sinking of the Titanic and suffer from survivors remorse. I feel guilty that I wasn't with my brother and nephew when they perished, but my is thankful for that trip. I also help to look after my brothers widow and four boys. They also suffer because they no longer have a father or brother.
