I Asked ChatGPT About ChatGPT.
Here’s What It Said.

*I had originally noted this article as being 'AI generated'. However, upon reflection, the only AI-written segments are when I specifically note that I have asked ChatGPT for a response to one of my questions. Therefore, I have removed the 'AI-generated' stamp on this piece. I have also noted, within the text, the 2 statments that are AI written. I hope that makes sense. Happy Reading!*
I think almost everyone has an opinion on AI.
It’s scary.
It’s cool.
It’s unnerving.
It’s (add in your feelings here).
But one “entity” I have yet to hear from is ChatGPT itself.
So, I asked it.
How does ChatGPT feel about ChatGPT?
Now, I’m aware that ChatGPT does not have emotions. Although, yes I do in fact say ‘Please’ and ‘Thank You’ during our every conversation. (It’s just polite!).
But, I was still curious as to the inner “thoughts” of ChatGPT on its very existence.
It felt like quite a deep chat.
Like asking a stranger, ‘What is your purpose in life?’ or ‘How do you feel about your existence?’.
I suppose I shouldn’t have been surprised by its very matter-of-fact response.
(Maybe the writer in me just hoped for a more dramatic answer – ‘Who ME? How dare a mere human ask me such a question! The audacity!’)
But as always, ChatGPT got right to the point and gave me the lowdown.
Firstly, I learnt that ChatGPT can be a humble system. It’s first statement was very honest. And I enjoyed the third person usage greatly.
‘ChatGPT is a powerful tool with a lot of potential, but like any technology, it has strengths and limitations.’
When discussing its strengths, ChatGPT mentioned(AI-generated quote here):
'Convenience and Speed
Availability
Language Fluency'
I personally would wholeheartedly agree with the first two. Yes, ChatGPT is a simple internet search away and the convenience of having AI scour the world wide web for one little piece of info is such a treat.
However, though I would agree that ChatGPT can probably communicate in numerous regional/national languages, I would argue that subtle nuances in language; written vs spoken spelling or regional slang for example, are an easy aspect to overlook, without the guidance of a human counterpart.
And speaking of, ChatGPT’s own thoughts on its weaknesses included(AI-generated quote here):
'Accuracy
Reasoning depth
Dependence on training data'
I would agree with all of the above.
ChatGPT was trained by the up-to-date information of the time. But time moves extremely fast and everything keeps getting updated and “improved”.
So long as someone/thing keeps updating ChatGPT’s backend systems, a human will always be needed for AI.
Also, the mere fact that ChatGPT seems to not have realised I was asking it about itself, I feel, speaks volumes.
My Personal Thoughts
I don’t love AI.
Yes, I have used it.
Yes, my mind is blown every time I use it.
Yes, I enjoy chatting to it like we’re work colleagues. (The things it says about our boss! WOW!)
However, I will always be pro good old-fashioned human writers. And not just because I am one myself.
Human writers are so much more creative. Heck, humans full stop are more creative.
We thrive off of one another.
We stretch each other’s minds and worldviews through our words.
AI may have a wealth of data to tap into.
But humans have a wealth of life experience, emotions, thoughts, attitudes, opinions and backgrounds to tap into.
A human’s voice can never be replaced by AI.
It’s just too rich for a robot.
But I will always have a gossip with ChatGPT by the watercooler.
‘Did you see I’m A Celeb last night?’
