Searching for a job online or offline is no easy feat, the competition is fierce and with many companies utilizing AI to complete tasks, it’s becoming more and more difficult to land a full-time job, therefore, creating your own online job might be the only option you have at the moment.

Creating your own job is not easy however, it does offer more flexibility, and you get to pick and choose the type of work you do.

Here are some suggestions for creating your own online job:

Sell physical products on eBay or other platforms

This option is hybrid because you do have to find the items to sell before you list them, so you have to search for items in thrift stores, garage sales, and yard sales. I’ve done this before, and it was a great way to make some extra money. Before I left the UK to travel abroad, I raised £10,000 in two months selling vintage cameras and game consoles on eBAy and Gumtree.

Create and sell niche specific digital products

You might think that selling digital products is saturated but it’s not. Let me tell you why, if you zoom in on a specific niche, you can build a seven-figure job without spending a penny. Yes, eventually, you will need to pay for pro subscriptions for tools such as Canva; however, in the beginning, you can get away with using the free versions and still make money.

Over the years, I’ve built several faceless digital product businesses and so far, my most lucrative digital product was the one I built for single mothers. I produced meal plan templates, baby growth trackers, meditation trackers, planners, e-guides on personal growth for single mothers, and much more.

In my opinion, the easiest way to start a digital product business is to start a YouTube channel. Yes, you do have to put in the work, you won’t see overnight success, but in time, you can realistically build a six or seven figure job for yourself.

Here are the steps for starting with zero dollars:

1.Create a YouTube channel and start posting daily

2.Focus on a specific niche

3.Create a Pinterest page to promote your videos

4.Join Facebook groups and interact, add value

5.Create a digital product for your audience, one that’s useful and value-packed

6.Publish your digital product on Gumroad or Payhip

7. Build a newsletter and collect subscribers through your content

8.Keep posting and engaging with your audience, give away lots of freebies

I’m not going to lie to you and say that building a digital product business is easy, because it’s not. It takes time, and at some point, you might want to give up, but I’m telling you, it’s worth your time, and you can completely change your life by creating a digital product business. Now, with AI, you can 10x your business. I’m doing this right now by using Perplexity AI to generate viral content ideas, and digital product outlines and ideas that sell.

Some people use AI to create their digital products for them, but I recommend that you use platforms such as ChatGPT to create drafts for your e-guides, and then edit them as you would a self-written draft. I don’t recommend copying and pasting AI generated content and selling it as is.

Create a YouTube Channel

I mentioned a YouTube channel above, but there are many ways to use YouTube to create a full-time job for yourself. Firstly, YouTube offers a partner program where you get paid monthly via Google Adsense. This is one income stream, secondly, there’s affiliate marketing, promoting other people’s products and getting paid commission every time someone purchases from your link.

You can also promote your products and services through your channel, plus if you’re selling physical products such as vintage cameras for example, you can document your life as a reseller, and promote your products through your content.

Create a Blog

Contrary to popular belief, blogging is not dead, it’s evolving. Blogging is becoming hybrid now, meaning that the focus is moving away from long-form blog sites with no singular focus. Long articles with and nothing else, bloggers are recognising the power of video and image content. Therefore, if you want to build a successful blog, you need to create video content, infographics, and a newsletter is key here too.

AI is here, but as a genuine blogger, you won’t lose out to AI. Here’s why:

People want genuine perspectives, they don’t want generic, regurgitated information. You want to read unique ideas and opinions, AI can’t offer this at the moment, and honestly, I believe that this is the perfect time to create a blog with well-written content and authentic viewpoints. Because so many online business “gurus” are pumping out AI content there’s no tomorrow, and Google is cracking down on it. In November 2024, blogs were hit hard with another Google Update meaning that blogs with generic content wouldn’t rank, blogs that focus on list articles would also suffer. Expert-led blogs and blogs that focus on unique and highly researched content would come out on top.

So, is it worth creating a blog in 2025? It is, but you must focus on:

  • Diversifying your content, by creating video, image and audio content
  • Offer a unique perspective
  • Remember the Google isn’t the only search engine, target other search engines too
  • Avoid generic AI generated content
  • Offer high value
  • Be patient

If I wanted to start a blog from scratch now, I would start a micro-blog. This means that I wouldn’t focus on posting long form content. I’d post one long form piece a week, and on other days, I’d post short form pieces, between 500 and 600 words long.

I’d share my thoughts and ideas on my blog, but then I’d create a YouTube channel to expand further on certain topics, creating detailed, long form content on YouTube adding lots of value, and for those who want to read, I’d promote my blog in the video description box and my bio. I’d also focus heavily on gaining subscribers for my newsletter to build a loyal army of fans.

Pinterest, YouTube, and X would be my main platforms for external traffic, and I’d post daily short form on my blog, weekly long form, and the same for YouTube. I would pin daily and post on X daily too. Another platform I would also post daily on Vocal.media, not Medium, and I’ll tell you why. Medium is heavily cracking down on creators who promote external links, they don’t like it or want it.

I’ve had two Medium pages deleted because of this, and I don’t want to go down that road again. So if I’m posting on Medium, the goal isn’t to promote my blog links, but to build brand awareness for my blog by creating a publication that shares the same name as my blog.

Final Thoughts

Creating your own remote job is an exciting and empowering journey, but it requires hard work, consistency, and a strategic approach. Whether you choose to sell physical products, create and market digital content, launch a YouTube channel, or start a blog, the opportunities are endless for those willing to take the leap. Yes, it’s not an easy road—there will be challenges, setbacks, and moments where you’ll question your path—but the rewards of building something that aligns with your passion and offers you the flexibility to work on your own terms are well worth the effort.

With the power of digital tools, social media platforms, and even AI, you can amplify your efforts, reach a global audience, and turn your passions into profit. So, start small, stay focused, and remember: success doesn’t happen overnight. But with dedication and the right mindset, you can create a remote job that fits your lifestyle and helps you achieve both financial freedom and personal fulfillment.
