How Freelancing Changed My Life
A peek into the startup of my freelancing career.

Everyone at some point in their lives decides to try to earn money from home by tutoring, becoming a virtual assistant, being a customer support agent, or affiliate marketing, among many others. However, it takes a lot of time and effort in order to be able to stay home and pay the bills. You're probably asking yourself, "Where is she going with this?" I'll tell you.
I decided to become a freelance proofreader, editor, and writer. Then again I have something not everyone does. My significant other goes out and works hard every day while I stay home. Don't get me wrong, I'm not the lazy type. Our dog has separation anxiety and at the time, we couldn't afford a pet sitter or a kennel every day so I stepped up.
I spent a few days catching up on some cleaning, spending time with my animals and catching up on my favourite shows but it got boring after a while! Turns out I don't like it as much as I thought. Honestly, I felt useless. Now don't get it twisted, anyone who stays at home while their SO goes to work is not useless, it's just how I felt about myself personally. Anyways, so, there I was, watching TV when I had the thought. What if I made money from here? I looked at doing anything and everything and none of it appealed to me or spoke to me. So I called my mom and asked her what her thoughts were to which she reminded me of the book I tried writing when I was a kid. Then came the idea of "What if I wrote a book?" and then "What if I helped people write stories?" which finally became "I'll proofread and edit pieces for other people!"
It took some research, okay, a lot of research but finally, I put my services up on as many websites as I could find. I was so excited and every day after that the excitement grew. Sadly, as the days turned into weeks, still nothing. My SO told me to just be patient because good things come to those who wait. So, I kept waiting. It took longer than I originally thought it would, found out that's normal, but when I finally got my first client I jumped up and down, did my happy dance, called everyone right away because I was so happy! Then, after that, the orders started pouring in.
I'm doing what I love now. I help people do well in their classes and at their jobs. I even started tutoring students in ELA classes. I didn't realize it before but writing is my passion and I can't wait to learn more.
Freelancing changed my life by making me happier, healthier, and by giving me a purpose again. I'm proud of who I am today and nothing can change that. Besides, now I have time to do other things I love! I get to spend more time with my SO and pets, I have the time to clean my house, get in shape, prepare meals. It's made me a more productive and focused person, I'm not so scatterbrained all the time! If you're considering working from home, I definitely reccomend it. Just remember to be patient, make sure it's not the only source of income when you first start, and find something that speaks to you!
