Ian Ross (Neal McDonough), the owner of the homestead, tries to hold out until the government takes control. He appoints former Green Beret Jeff Erickson (Bailey Chase) as head of security and brings in several military personnel, their wives and families. His black wife Tara (Kieran Giovanni) is also a former soldier. They have a troubled adopted daughter who is clairvoyant and has visions of the future. They have an inexperienced son, Abe (Tyler Lofton), who volunteers for security duty because he has only ever hunted deer and is more likely to shoot other hunters than any prey. Jeff believes society is in decline – but what if it is? – so he could be accused of being over-prepared. One of his underlings, Bing (Manny McCord), is a self-described survivalist/loner. Various other outside influences also interfere.

Cupid's Arrow Praying One-Piece Pool It's said that young love budding between Abe and teenage resident Evie (Susan Meisner) could be the key to the camp's success. This prepares us for a lot of the drama that's promised after the series' end credits roll. Evie has a heart transplant, so her love will only work if it is genuine. Evie's favorite flower is the morning glory, which will wither as soon as the sun comes up. Her attraction to Abe may not last long. But there are not so many men she can choose from. As for Abe, who is a mulatto, the white girls may dislike him, and the black people outside the compound will riot. He himself has two opposing natures anyway. If that wasn't enough, Abe is agnostic while Evie is deeply religious ("May I pray for you?"). I can't wait to see how the writers handle all of this. Danish author Guðmundur Kamban expressed a similar concern in his historical novel:

Will their chief adopt Christianity? Will all his people be forced to abandon their pagan beliefs? Pagans and Christians could not live peacefully under the same roof. (182)

Jesus in the Clouds Potato Cornucopia In the futuristic film The Martian, the colonists were also stranded with limited food, as this is a religiously influenced production by Angel Studios.

Ideology

Card Players This military action is often likened to one of Kenny Rogers' songs, which sang about a chance encounter with a "player" on a train going nowhere. He advised his traveling companions that "the secret to survival is knowing what to throw away and what to keep." The chorus of this song is: When you're sitting at the table, never count your money.

When the deal is done, you'll have plenty of time to count.

This wisdom from the gambler's repertoire is ancient and is delivered by the narrator Agur in Proverbs 30:1, whose four metaphors offer the same life advice as Rogers' gambler. It is found in (Proverbs 30:29-31): "A greyhound, and a goat, and a king whom no man can stand against."

We have Agur's "lion, the strongest of the beasts, who flees from none," and Rogers' "knowing when to hold them back." In our film, when a SWAT team surrounds the compound without a warrant, the more armed defenders defend the grounds.

We have Agur's "king without rebellion," and Rogers' "knowing when to make them surrender." A king who knows when to bow to his subjects will not experience rebellion. The survivors, against their own better judgment, share their limited resources with the crowd at the gate.

Checkbox Dwarf Goat There's Agur's "Goat" and Roger's "Knowing When to Go". When the bureaucrats show up and try to take their guns ("Never Take Them Back") and take the food ("For a Fair and Equitable Distribution") for themselves, he is chased away, but will probably come back another day. Once everyone is settled, the lawyers can clarify the matter.

There's Agur's "Greyhound" and Roger's "Knowing When to Run". When the preppers find out about the raid, they have to grab their bags and run from the angry mob.

Production Values

Homestead (2024) was directed by Ben Smallbone, brother of Joel and Luke Smallbone, better known as Christian rock band For King & Country. The screenplay was written by Philip Abrahams, Leah Bateman and Ben Kasica and is based on the Black Autumn series of novels by Jeff Kirkham and Jason Ross. The film stars Dawn Olivieri, Neal McDonough and Susan Meisner. All the cast members are capable of playing many nuanced roles.

The conclusion of the consideration with Christian recommendation

Abraham rejects Hagar. There was some discussion in the film about how to deal with uninvited visitors and how stubbornly they should resist, but there was no preaching per se, no Bible verses were quoted, and an atmosphere of politeness prevailed. Christian mercy towards friends, family and petitioners was well portrayed, but the problem could have been avoided entirely if the Coast Guard had contained the enemy more quickly. The film was good for its kind, and the audience can judge it accordingly.
