From Boardroom to Brewhouse
Reinventing Retirement with Organic Tea

As the sun began to set on my illustrious career as an entrepreneur, I felt a mixture of pride and uncertainty. I had spent over two decades building successful businesses, earning numerous recognitions and awards along the way. However, as I am approaching retirement, I know I’m not ready to sit idle. Instead, I desire a new beginning, something that would blend my entrepreneurial spirit with my growing passion for nature and wellness.
I remember I was a lover of nature during my younger years. I used to seek nature in times of mental struggles during the war in Lebanon. Nature has continually strengthened my relationship with God and has been a place of grounding for me. Then came life changes, and I had to find refuge in a safer place. I got busy making a new life in Canada, and I didn’t even slow down to seek some alone time in the place that gives me the most comfort. Now that I am approaching retirement, I feel most grounded when hiking in nature. It was during one of these peaceful moments, walking the trails of Halton Region, that the idea was uncovered. The world of herbal beverages was vast, rich in tradition, and aligned perfectly with my wellness and natural living interests.
What if I could turn this renewed passion into my next business venture?
Excited by the prospect, I began delving deeper into the world of herbs. I learned about the different types of tea leaves, the art of blending herbs, and the health benefits of various herbal infusions. The more I researched, the more I became convinced that starting an organic loose-leaf tea brand was the perfect project for my retirement years. It was a venture that would allow me to remain active in the business world while I promoted a product I truly believe in.
With a clear vision, I embarked on the journey of building my tea brand, Brew & Scone. After completing my business plan, I started attending online workshops and even joined a certification program to become a Herbalist. I showcased at different tradeshows where I met with tea lovers. I researched and connected with suppliers who shared my commitment to organic farming. I was determined to ensure that my teas would be made from the highest quality, sustainably sourced ingredients. After months of studying, researching, tasting and testing, I finally perfected my initial range of blends, each designed to offer the customer a unique and beneficial experience. I even became a certified herbalist!
One of my favourites was a soothing blend of chamomile, lavender, and lemon balm crafted to promote relaxation and calm. Another popular blend was a revitalizing mix of green tea, peppermint, and ginseng to boost energy and focus. Each blend has been a testament to my dedication to quality and belief in nature's healing power.
But I knew that creating a great product is only half the battle. To succeed in the competitive world of tea, I needed to build a brand that resonated with people. Drawing on my extensive experience in entrepreneurship, I crafted a brand identity that reflected my values. With the help of my daughter, who was a graphic designer, we chose simple yet elegant packaging with eco-friendly materials that underscored my commitment to sustainability.
Preparing to launch Brew & Scone, I contacted my network for support. I contacted old business associates, friends, and family, sharing my vision and inviting them to try my teas. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising not only the quality of the blends but also the thoughtfulness behind the brand. Encouraged by this feedback, I decided to take the next step and open an online store.
Building the website was a new challenge, but I embraced it with determination. I created a user-friendly platform where customers could easily browse and purchase my teas. The site featured detailed descriptions of each blend, highlighting the ingredients and their health benefits. There’s also a blog section where I share my knowledge about herbal teas, offering tips on brewing the perfect cup and the various ways to incorporate tea into a healthy lifestyle.
The launch of Brew & Scone, on January 1st, 2024, was a resounding success. I fulfilled orders from tea enthusiasts and wellness advocates alike. Many customers were drawn to the brand’s story, inspired by my journey and my commitment to promoting natural health. The positive reviews and repeat business were a testament to the quality of my teas and the strength of my brand.
As Brew & Scone grows, I find myself busier every day. But it is a different kind of busy, one that brings me immense satisfaction. I am doing something I love, I share my passion with others, and I contribute to their well-being. The sense of purpose and fulfillment I feel is beyond anything I have experienced in my previous ventures.
Looking back, I realize that my transition into retirement had been less about winding down and more about finding a new way to channel my energy and expertise. Starting Brew & Scone has given me a renewed sense of purpose, allowing me to continue making a positive impact in the world. It is a reminder that retirement doesn’t have to mean the end of productivity or creativity. Instead, it is the beginning of a new and exciting chapter.
Through my journey, I aim to inspire others who are approaching retirement to follow their passions and explore new opportunities. Whether starting a business, volunteering, or pursuing a long-held hobby, I believe staying active and engaged is key to a fulfilling retirement.
Today, Brew & Scone is more than just a tea brand; it’s a testament to the power of passion and perseverance. My story is an excellent example of how it’s never too late to start something new, and with dedication and a love for what you do, anything is possible.
