Glorious Blooms in the Enchanted World of Julia Rose

Floral Fashion, Painting a picture.
My medium is fresh flowers and my designs momentary.
I intertwine nature into my pieces, I work with flowers, botanicals and collect feathers from my farm babies. I take inspiration from my surrounds.
When it comes to the actual 'creation' of my pieces, it is a natural evolution. As my work is done with fresh floral product I cannot control the way the flower grew or the way the leaves fall in my design. So it's very much evolutionary as I am creating. Following the natural flow of the blooms. Working with fresh vegetation, being perishable - the challenge is making every little flower look perfect and stay perfect the whole time the creation is being shot or viewed. I love that challenge. I love that my art is so fragile.
All of my experiences in life had shaped and moulded me to this point of creation. Over the years my skills have become refined, my eye has sharpened. The images I create now I treat like a painting for instance:
I choose the colour of my model's skin, the line of her jaw. I set the background & the textures of the flowers... all to relay emotion. I can tell a tale in a single image through the play of light combined with the texture of the botanicals & flowers.
I paint an image with fresh flowers as my medium.
I know exactly what it is I want to relay to the viewer, and I bring those elements to life, one step at a time. Through the selection of colour palette, flowers, botanicals, model, photographer, props and location.
I dive into my art and let it wrap around me. My heart sings the loudest when I'm designing large over the top decadent pieces. Theatrical and fanciful! My Pieces are inspired by nature, music theatre and the arts, all of the things that bring me joy.
I love that people see my passion and get to feel a little part of my soul through my designs.
They say people can see passion and for years I thought that was just a common saying. But now I know it’s true. As when you create something for the pure love of creation, people see it, people feel it, people really do connect with it.
One of my favourites articles, on my art...
"Glorious Blooms in the Enchanted World of Julia Rose
If she wasn’t a floral designer, Julia Rose would be saving abandoned animals and nurturing them at her rustic little farm. It’s a complete contrast to the high society world of opulent floral designs where her work is celebrated for its theatrical fancy, Hollywood extravagance and touch of magic.
She began studying floristry at the Gold Coast in Year 12 after a serious car accident in Year 11 ended her formal schooling. She threw herself into her new craft and loved it. Today, she is called upon to teach and mentor across the flower, event and photography industries.
And no wonder! There’s an underlying richness to her designs that is almost Renaissance or Dutch Baroque – think Rachel Ruysch or Jan van Huysum – but there’s a fairytale quality too that hints at characters from A Midsummer Night’s Dream or Cicely Mary Baker’s famous fairy illustrations. But her work is not studied nor is it academic - it is full of joy, whimsy and the sheer love of flowers. "
