Asheville Regional Airport Stuck to Pavement due to Regional Flight Cancelations

Regional travelers experienced a rare event over the weekend as all flights at Asheville Regional Airport were canceled on Saturday afternoon. By Sunday morning, Delta Airlines canceled all of its flights due to depart before noon September 29, leaving all their passengers in frustration and scrambling to make other plans to reach their destinations before Tuesday at the latest. According to airport officials, the wide internet and cellular service outages that hit much of the surrounding area are now overwhelming airport operations and making it difficult to keep everyone who passes through here informed and up to date in a timely manner. Apparently, mass internet and cellular outages are a huge main cause of the problem plaguing the region. Service interruption is not just affecting the airport but commercial airlines as well, in terms of coordination and updating real-time schedules of flights to travelers. On this note, airport officials are already asking passengers to communicate their status to their airlines before proceeding to the airport.

We'll to post on Facebook as often as we can, but we ask for your patience as service remains unreliable," the airport said in a public update. The airport's Facebook page has become one of the primary information outlets for travelers, as other systems are affected by regional outages. But the spotty nature of the internet in the region means even the updates there aren't always reliable.

Not that things are likely to change anytime soon. Officials at the airport said that they expect flight interruptions and cancellations to endure the rest of the week as technology problems continue to plague the region. To travel, it means you can plan on delays and cancelations beyond Sunday-and perhaps even well into next week.

The Asheville Regional Airport is advising all travelers to stay in close contact with their airlines for the most up-to-date information about their flights. So with portions of the day being down for the Asheville Regional Airport website, it is not being updated regularly, which complicates things even more to share important updates.

Many flights were canceled today and we expect more tomorrow," the update went on. "Check directly with your air carrier for the latest status information regarding your flight prior to traveling to the airport. Because of local internet failures, our website is not updated on a regular basis.

The scale of the disruption is not only affecting outgoing flights but also creating a ripple effect on the travel ecosystem in the region. Since a good number of passengers would have been stranded or delayed, hotels near an airport increase their bookings as travelers reschedule plans. On the other hand, companies providing rental cars and alternative transportation services also increase demand as part of the travelers resorting to finding alternative means of reaching their destinations.

Technological Issues Compound the Problem

The airport itself is open, and, from a purely technical standpoint, planes can still take off and land. However, the commercial airlines face problems that point to technological issues, making it nearly impossible for them to operate their flights without hitches.

Among some of the problems being encountered by airlines include the ones to do with communication systems, scheduling software used for flights, and many other technologies that are necessary to ensure smooth flight operation. All these issues tend to create more headaches to the airline personnel and the passengers because all those involved are trying to find their way in a difficult, although unpredictable, scenario. The cause of the broad internet and cellular outage is still unknown, but already it has presented major challenges to local businesses, residents, and now, Asheville Regional Airport and the broader air travel system. In a world where so many systems rely on real-time data, the inability to access the internet has thrown everything in a domino effect-from booking systems to communication between airlines and passengers.

What Travelers Should Do

In these regards, the people are being called to prepare more before leaving for the airport. In fact, they have been instructing passerby people to keep in touch with the airline to know the flight status. Sometimes, the airport website and other portals may not work properly. Clients should be ready with an alternate solution in case of delay or cancellation and can book a hotel or know some public transports near the airport.

Another advice is to make sure one only heads to the airport if they have previously confirmed their flight's scheduled time of departure. Most flights are canceled well before the time of departure. This may end up in just more hanging around or worse problems if one arrives and has not checked the earlier cancellation.

Viewers who arrive at airports see the employees on the ground, willing to do everything they can to assist everyone within complex technical situations. However, with the amount of cancelations and the persistent outages, it is important for travelers to be fluid and patient with events as they develop:

The Asheville Regional Airport has been concerned enough to keep the passengers informed, but the officers here are very much aware of the frustration the disruption has caused. The top-most priority is still on the safety aspect and effective communication with the airlines to reduce further nuisance to the travelers keeps them on their toes. With no short-term solution to the regional service outage in place, the airport and airlines are preparing for a few challenging days ahead.

Meanwhile, the airport urges the public to stay abreast of information made either by calling their airline contact centres or on the social media sites of Facebook to get clear information about this strike. Indeed, although the future is unclear now, they strive to get back to normalcy once the technological problem is solved so that smooth travel experiences are delivered to all passengers once again.
