Covens Of Appellation

A Key Strung Collab'rative

By Ad-Libbing With The Z-ManPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

My nostrils were assailed by a miasma that, against otherwise expectations, pulled me along rather than detracting me. I would be reticent about admitting as to the ease by which my motor controls were forsaken to such a mysterious end. However, as with any choice inflection that may bring any of my words to dance to a more secretive tune than by way of original intention, there was no specific decision that had to be made.

As the peculiar aroma led me along by the nose, I soon came upon an unexpected declivity, which surprised me by its arrival here in such a wilderness as I had ventured and stored to heart so long ago. In my journey down that unexpected slope, I passed the even more unnerving site of an arboretum, which only served to deepen my suspicions and stir my nerves up into a frenzy. The opulence it spoke of, in turn, almost pleaded with me to reconsider my notions. However, in respect of my own erudite tenacities, I held no doubt in confirming that I would not be fooled. Shielding my senses against any incumbent remonstrance that would only seek to prolong the matter, I pressed onward and downward.

After some time of building panic as I sunk deeper and deeper into cloying wood, the trees gave way to a sigh, opening up into an interstice that brought me to question things not exactly irrelevant to my current dilemma. However, I was confident in my own sedulous nature as an adventurist, and so sallied forth with no delay, soon breaking through the gap will little more than a few apparelic scuffs to remind me later.

Of course, any woods-dweller or traveller knows that such things are apropos to the experiences gained in such an environment, and so I regarded them as not a burden, but a totemic reminder of the trials and tribulations that had so nourished my life.

AFTERWORD

While I originally intended to stop at ten words--and actually decided on thirteen (in reference to "coven" in the title)--I have decided to leave it at the 11 as it stands now.

I have no idea of the place (or places) where this rudimentary tale could fetch up, and I suppose sometimes it is okay to leave it that way. Perhaps I will funnel it into some future work, or allow it to remain a testament to the journey completely unexpected as to find finish in such a small footprint.

And, honestly, coming up with a new word particular to each sentence, and doing that until I could fill up this page with at least 600 words by my own fingertips? That would really just be more time than I would be willing to spare to make that happen. In the end, forcing yourself onward just to meet a word requirement does little more than stretch the integrity of your youthful work toward--and most likely past--its breaking point. Therein lies the failure that perhaps shares integrity with the lack of effort that brings a story not to a boil, but little past a simmer.

Anyway...let me know what you think about my little experiment here, and your opinion on the results and their arguable completeness. Its tests like these that perhaps I believe help give me the spice to help me create differentiable works in a place where conformity and lack of a steady audience undermine me at the usual turns.

So, with that said, I suppose I just want to thank you for tuning in, and to let me know in the comments section on any of my posts what you would be interested in discussing with me.
