Can You Co-Author a Medium Story?
Can you add a co-author to your Medium stories?
Writing on Medium is a fun experience for me. In this article, we will discuss the possibility that can you co-author a story on Medium. Having the ability to co-author means that you appreciate those who contributed to your story in some form. Medium is a great publishing platform and the site evolved to be one of the best platforms for writers.
President of the United States Joe Biden as well as former president of the United States Barak Obama also write on the platform and share their thoughts and press release. When credible people are writing and contributed to a platform, it gives the platform more credibility. More and more people choose to write on the platform.
Can two-person be listed as an author for a single story?
No. Right now this feature isn't available for anyone. In some cases, you want to mention the editor of the story. The writer on some sites mentions the writer and the editor profiles with a proper kicker in their profile. On Medium, your name is mentioned at the start of the article. At the end of the article, the publication name is mentioned. This is for the new Medium design.
In the old Medium publication design, the author's name appears on top as well as at the end of the post where you can follow the author from there. Also, just beneath the profile of the author, the Medium publication, that story is published is mentioned.
Medium has implemented this feature to their platform where now, the people who contributed to a story, their names appear at the bottom of the blog post.
On other platforms like Substack, there are easy options to add multiple authors. And, they can contribute to the story or even see the stats.
In Medium, someone can send you an edit notice or add a note to your story or help you improve the story and you can give them the credit at the end of the story.
In future, you have the option to add the author and they will show the name of the authors at the top of the Medium story that you are publishing.
One of the best thing that you could do beside contribution is to be part of a Medium publication.
A note at the end of the story 'thanks to <author name>' what does this mean?
When I joined Medium, this was a very new thing for me. In every post published in a certain Medium publication, there was this note at the end of the story 'thanks to author name' This mean that the author's name mentioned edited or helped the story improve.
To answer this question; no, your story should be a rightful property of yours. You can edit your story to improve it and can mention the author's profile at the end of the posts thanking him/her/them for editing or suggesting improvements to the story.
If you want to create a Publication on Medium, read stories of thousands of writers, or want to create a publication, you can Join Medium membership for $5/month.
Disclosure: There are some affiliate links in this article and we will make a small commission if you choose to buy anything through these links at no additional cost to you.
There are some big publishing houses on Medium like Business Insider and Refinery29 UK that mentioned the author's profile In the end or at the start of the profile. But, they are big publishing houses and the content syndication help Medium generate more engagement while these companies make money republishing content on Medium. A win-win situation.
I hope this helps.
