Can Writing on Wattpad Get You Published?

What is Wattpad?

Do you love writing fiction? Wattpad is an online writing site where you can write your book for the world to see. I enjoy writing on Wattpad because it helps me to write regularly. I have got five books there and I regularly upload a chapter every 5 days or sooner if I get the time to do so. Writing creatively on Wattpad is easy. You can also read some great books there for free.

Wattpad is a great place to write where you can get some feedback on your fiction novels. You can write non-fiction books there too. The social media there is helpful and you can get some useful comments from readers. 

Wattpad is the best place if you want to get noticed with your writing because anyone will be able to read it. Even big named publishers like Random House will read books there. Many authors from Wattpad have had their books published just by sharing them there.

I started writing there a few years ago. It helped me to write my books regularly. I started writing my fiction series there and it quickly became an interest to many readers as I was writing it. I wrote the first book there uploading a chapter there every week until it was finished.

My book Time to Run series is a horror sci-fi series inspired by The Walking Dead TV show. I got the inspiration to write regularly on Wattpad because I loved the tv show so much.

There are lots of fan fiction novels on Wattpad these days. The book is based on an apocalyptic disaster, which is set in London. The characters are my own creation along with the story. Time to Run, the updated full version, is also on sale on Amazon and it's the first book in the Time to Run series. Book 2 The Gathering from the Time to Run series is now out on Wattpad which can be read for free before it is actually published.

The advantages of Wattpad

1. The best thing about Wattpad is that you can find a really good book to read there for free. There are many top writers using Wattpad at present and well-known authors like R. L. Stine share some of his writing there too along with Margaret Atwood who shares some of her writing.

2. You can be lucky enough to get a publisher interested in your book. There have been many writers on Wattpad who have been found and published. At the moment, Sourcebooks are looking for fiction on Wattpad. All you have to do is submit your book via Wattpad to Sourcebooks by tagging it to them in the description tags. Sourcebooks are an up and coming publisher. They have published many books from Wattpad so go and check them out.

3. If your book gets votes and comments, then this will quickly push it up to the hot list and when it's completed it could get featured by Wattpad.

 4. You can join book reading clubs on Wattpad and get comments and reviews on your books. This will help it get noticed, plus it will help you with your writing providing you are in the right type of book club (an experienced one, see disadvantages).

 5. Authors like Anna Todd got her book After published by sharing it on Wattpad in 2013. She tells Forbes that by putting her book up on Wattpad she was able to get enough interest in it for someone to find it and want to publish it. Without Wattpad she tells Forbes that she would have never had that kind of success.

The disadvantages of Wattpad

There are a few disadvantages and so I have listed them below:

1. You can join a book club, but be warned there are many young people on Wattpad and many other people from other countries. English may not be their first language. They share their books there too. The only problem some youngsters may give comments on a story or the way it's written, but they may not have read it fully or they may not know what they are talking about. Some youngsters are as young as 13 years old and over. If you are an experienced writer, then a book club of this kind may not be your cup of tea, especially if you want someone experienced to review it. There are many young people who are not experienced enough to give reviews on how your book should be edited. So, be aware of this.

 2. There is all manner of people on Wattpad who claim to know how to write, but beware they may not be that good at writing themselves. 

So, give Wattpad a go if you love writing! The advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
