Nicki Minaj, real name Onika Tanya Maraj, was a Trinidadian-born vocalist, songwriter, television personality, and actress who rose to fame for her provocative lyrics and flowing, quick-spoken rapping technique. She was born on December 8, 1982, in St. James, Trinidad and Tobago. Her bold persona, which included colorful wigs and provocative attire, complimented her music.Maraj's family relocated from Trinidad and Tobago to Queens, New York, when she was around five years old.

Her violent, drug-addicted father dominated her childhood, and she spent a lot of time making up fantasies for herself to help her flee her chaotic circumstances. She changed her name to Nicki Minaj as a result of this behavior. She also pursued acting at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City, writing her first rap music there when she was 12 years old.

In New York City, Minaj started her career as a backup vocalist for up-and-coming rap artists. A local record label saw her Myspace website, which featured videos of her work. Rapper Lil Wayne ultimately became aware of Minaj, and the two collaborated on a few mixtapes, the first of which, Playtime Is Over, was released in 2007. Minaj's popularity increased as additional mixtapes were published, and the following year she won Female Artist of the Year at the Underground Music Awards.

She got a contract with Wayne's record label, Young Money Entertainment, in 2009. This label released numerous hits by Minaj, Drake, and Wayne. Pink Friday (2010), her debut record for Young Money, peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. It had explicit sexual content, which was typical of her recordings, and Minaj accepted the shock factor of her art. The album's title also alluded to the singer's love of the color pink, which she used to name her albums and later consumer goods like the Pink Friday perfume and Pink Pill speakers.

Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, Minaj's second album, which included the hit track "Starships" and other popular songs, was released in 2012. The music competition on reality TV known as American Idol added Minaj as a judge the following year. She stirred up controversy with her opinionated, blunt judging approach and her frequent disagreements with Mariah Carey, a fellow judge. After one season, Minaj departed from the show. She also made history in 2013 by making a record-breaking 44 appearances on the Billboard Hot 100 list, the most by a female rapper. The Pinkprint, her third studio album, was published in 2014. It was notable for having a number of breakup tracks and "Anaconda," a return to her earlier rap style. The 2018 album Queen contained collaborations with artists like Eminem and the Weeknd.

In her infrequent acting roles, Minaj appeared in the films Barbershop: The Next Cut (2014) and The Other Woman (2014). (2016). She provided voices for the animated films The Angry Birds Movie 2 and Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012). (2019).

Minaj is renowned for her "unique" flow and animated rapping technique. She raps quickly and frequently uses different personas and accents, mainly British Cockney. She frequently uses word play, metaphors, and rapping in her tracks in addition to singing. Her lyrics integrate the alter egos through British accents (Roman Zolanski) or soft vocalizations. (Harajuku Barbie). Regarding Minaj's rapping technique, Ice-T remarked, "[Minaj] does her thing. She approaches things in a unique manner. Her vocal performance is poor. She kind of reminds me of a female Busta Rhymes because of the way she uses her vocals.

Minaj was described as "a sparkling rapper with a gift for comic accents and unexpected turns of phrase" by Jon Caramanica of The New York Times. She exaggerates everything about herself, from her voice to her appearance. She also changes quickly, dropping outdated behaviors just as quickly as acquiring new ones. Minaj asserted: "What people don't know is that before I was doing that craziness I was doing, I was just doing regular sounding rap that anyone could hear and connect with. However, once I began acting in such an odd way, I wasn't mad about it because it caught everyone's attention. Minaj was listed among the "most original flows from rappers over the last five years" by Robby Seabrook III of XXL.

She is well-known as a rapper, but she also rarely performs electronic music. Her genre-hopping began with Pink Friday, which gave rise to electro songs like the upbeat "Super Bass" and other pop-infused tracks. "HOV Lane," "Whip It," "Automatic," "Come on a Cone," "Young Forever," "Fire Burns," "Roman Holiday," "The Boys," and "Beez in the Trap" are just a few of the electro-hop and electro pop songs on Minaj's second album, Pink Friday Roman Reloaded, which also incorporates synthesizer music and rap. "Starships" is a eurodance song.

She gained a lot of popularity thanks in large part to her highly acclaimed verse on Kanye West's "Monster"; many reviewers thought it was the best verse in the song. West stated that he once thought about removing her verse from the song because he was concerned that it would overshadow his own work
