I’ve been working as an AI tester on the side for a couple of months now, it’s been fun. But one thing I’ve noticed is that it’s really difficult to get this type of work.

I earn an extra $200 to $1000 a month doing this work. I don’t work nearly as much as I could work on this, but it’s great for some extra money.

So, what does the work entail?

Ai testing is basically where you test new AI software and provide feedback. You get paid for doing this. Secondly, some websites and companies require humans to edit AI generated captions and read through content to humanise it.

It’s simple work, and you can do it in your spare time.

Benefits of being an AI tester:

1. High Demand and Future-Proofing Your Skills:

Growing Field: AI is permeating every industry, and with its complexity comes a critical need for rigorous testing. AI testers are essential for ensuring these systems are accurate, efficient, and ethical.

Evolving Role: While AI automates many tasks, the human element in testing remains irreplaceable, especially for critical thinking, ethical judgment, and identifying nuanced issues that AI might miss. This makes AI testing a highly future-proof career.

Upskilling Opportunities: A part-time role allows you to gain practical experience and deepen your understanding of AI concepts (machine learning, deep learning, NLP, computer vision), AI testing tools, and frameworks without a full-time commitment. This will make you more competitive in the job market.

2. Flexibility and Work-Life Balance:

Part-time Flexibility: This is the most obvious benefit. A part-time role offers the flexibility to balance work with other commitments like studies, family, or other interests.

Remote Work Potential: Many AI testing roles can be performed remotely, offering even greater flexibility in terms of location and work schedule.

3. Valuable Skill Development and Career Advancement:

Specialized Expertise: You'll develop specialized skills in evaluating AI system performance, dependability, and safety, including identifying biases and ethical considerations.

Exposure to Cutting-Edge Technology: You'll be working with the latest AI technologies and models, gaining insights into how they function and how to improve them.

Collaboration with Diverse Teams: AI testers often collaborate closely with developers, data scientists, and domain experts, providing a holistic understanding of the development lifecycle.

Portfolio Building: Even part-time work allows you to contribute to real-world projects, which can be invaluable for building a portfolio that showcases your skills and expertise.

Potential for Full-Time Transition: A part-time role can be an excellent stepping stone to a full-time position as an AI tester or related AI/QA roles, as you'll have hands-on experience and a network within the industry.

4. Contribution to Responsible AI Development:

Ethical Guardianship: AI testers play a crucial role in ensuring that AI systems adhere to ethical standards and societal norms, identifying and mitigating biases. This is a critical aspect of AI development that requires human oversight.

Safety and Reliability: You'll directly contribute to the safety and reliability of AI applications, especially in high-stakes sectors like healthcare, automotive, and public infrastructure.

5. Financial Benefits:

Supplemental Income: A part-time role provides an additional income stream.

Lucrative Field: As AI becomes more integrated into software, the demand for skilled AI testers is expected to increase, potentially leading to competitive compensation.

I’ve been doing AI software testing and editing for some time now, and I can vouch that it’s good side income. You won’t get rich unless you create your own app, or you work in tech sales or something however, it’s a great side gig, and I highly recommend it.
