Here are a few jobs for you to consider before making your next career move.
Software Engineer
At some point you may have wondered should I be an engineer? While there are many different types of engineering positions available, one of the most prominent ones right now is a software engineer. Someone in this position spends his days writing code to develop websites and computer programs. There are front end and back end developers, and they usually work together and collaborate to form completed code. Qualified candidates are highly sought after and typically very well paid. Growth for this type of position seems to be on the rise, so now is the time to get in the coding game.
Information Technology Manager
Most companies contain an information technology department that helps troubleshoot issues that arise throughout the work day. The IT managers oversees all other employees in that department. They help handle any technology problems that the company has and implement new software into the business. Those interested in this position may want to consider taking business classes in addition to computer science classes.
Information Security Analyst
Information security analysts looks at written code to find potential security problems. Companies hire them to look at their practices and infrastructure and find any flaws in the system before a hack happens. If a company does get hacked, they may have an information security analyst come in to figure out how the breach occurred. In this job, you essentially become a legal hacker in the hopes of helping people.
Mobile Application Developer
New mobile applications are popping up on a near daily basis. Mobile application developers are the ones who create those apps. If you have an idea for an app but aren't sure how to create it, you could hire someone in this position to help you. They are able to work freelance or for different tech companies. With demand for mobile apps and mobile app updates so high, this position is continuously on the rise.
Computer Hardware Engineer
While software engineers deal with writing code to create different software, hardware engineers deal with the tangible parts of a computer. They design and create new and improved hardware. They also help fix and build the components of a computer, such as circuit boards and processors. If you're more into building and creating things with your hands, this might be the right fit for you.
Database Administrator
Database administrators are responsible for storing and organizing data. In any given organization, there are multiple employees who need access to certain information. The DBA makes sure that the right employees have access to the right data. They are also responsible for keeping it organized as well as recovering any data that might get lost.
Web Developer
Similar to a software engineer, web developers create websites and web apps. They may work for a tech company that gets hired by different organizations to create their company website, or many of them may choose to work freelance. Either way, businesses are always looking for ways to update and improve their web presence.
One of the best ways to decide if you'd like working in a given industry is through taking classes. Most careers in the tech industry require you to have relatively complex math and computer science skills, so look for classes that focus on those. Another great way to choose a potential career is through an internship. Check with companies in your area to see if they have an available intern positions or if they will allow you to shadow someone for a few days. No matter what career you decide on, make sure it is something that you'll enjoy doing for life.
